I found out about this earlier tonight, so sad . Definitely. Condolences go out to his family and friends. Rip Mr. Gandolfini, you'll truly be missed.
This sucks. I haven't even made the time to see The Sopranos, and I'm still comfortable offering Gandolfini genuine praise as an actor. He's been terrific in just about every role of his I've seen, and he'll be missed.
Gandolfini is truly an actor that proves there are no small roles; just small actors (and that's NOT a pun about his weight).
Shocked and saddened to hear of this. He was incomparable in the role of Tony Soprano and was always highly watchable in any other role. It's particularly sad for his family, as he has an infant daughter. I'll be doing a Sopranos box-set binge this weekend.
If he had done nothing else but The Sopranos, he would be remembered for creating one of the most memorable television characters ever. If the audience had not been able to sympathize on some level with that essentially dishonest, immoral and violent character, the show would not have worked. Somehow he made it work, and made TV history. Sad to see him go so young.
It's truly awful that his last role was Burt Wonderstone. Kind of Like that god awful wagon train for john candy and Beverly HIlls Ninja for Chris Farley
Great great actor. Tony Soprano was not a character that could have been played by just any actor who could do a New Jersy/Italian accent. Gandolfini made audiences hate Tony in one scene and turn around and practically weep for him in another. So sad to hear about his death, especially at such a young age. He had to go--
He had completed two other feature films before his death. His last film, Animal Rescue, with Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace, is scheduled for release next year.
He was a great actor and a great Jersey boy. You hear stories all the time of people bumping into him down that area of the state, and no one ever has anything to say but complements on how polite and nice he was. R.I.P. Mr Gandolfini.
