But that's why sex stops in marriages, when children start to look just like their parents and the parents notice.

If the continuity is a hinderance to understanding the show...

    You're not a big enough fan. :p

You're probably right. If I could keep things straight with Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, and even Lost, but not How I Met Your Mother, it probably is a sign I'm not a big fan of the show.

Like Friends, I'm really just coasting until the last episode, watching more out of obligation and habit than anything else.

Still, a few times, the show does remind me of it's previous greatness.

This weeks episode went a long way to reminding me of it's earlier better episodes. I'm still annoyed at the fact that they're going to ring another season out of this show. But if they do in fact reveal the mother this season and have a season of him getting to know her, wel I think that would be great and potentially redeem Season 9 in my eyes.

In defense of the show, Rachel Bilson was a pretty important part of the show's continuity. First of all, she's a reputable actress (and not one of the dismissable ex-gfs we'd seen in the past). Second of all, it was a key reveal that the yellow umbrella was hers. Third of all, it was a key reveal that unknown to Ted at that point in his life, the future Mother was the roommate, and all the things in the room were hers, and in fact we see her ankle. That single episode answered YEARS worth of questions, while still keeping the big reveal a secret.

I can totally understand forgetting some minor plot points, but as far as major plot points go, this ranks right up there with finding out who the Final Five are or what's inside the hatch.

Exactly. That was a huge part of the "mythology" of the show. This weeks episode and the previous two parter where some of the best ones in quite some time. The show is still must see.

Yeah. Even I admit got some genuine laughs out of it. I mean, how can someone not find Ray Wise asking "Can I haz cheeseburger?" hysterical?

They make jokes about that a lot, as in him implying that it's a very "long" story, etc. But in-universe, I think it's meant to be him sitting down with his kids one evening and telling them this story about how he met their mother.

Each little story much take just a few moments to tell, but we are seeing it in real life detail.

Perhaps they should have hired John Moschitta to play old Ted.

There's a lot of euphemisms, too. For example, anytime someone smokes weed, it's called "eating a sandwich". Complete with actual sandwich.

I love their visual metaphors for naughty activity, that's one of the truly unique things about this show. They just invented a new one in the last episode, what was it again...? Oh yeah, confetti for baby shit!

I loved the bit when that porn video that Ted had just magically flew through the air and put itself in the VCR as Ted watched on helplessly.

I read we get one more installment of Robin Sparkles this season.

I love Robin Sparkles! There's so many great recurring gags on this show. It's been a long time they did that, isn't it?

And there's still one slap left for Marshall to deal out to Barney (my favorite running gag ). Slap Bet is my favorite episode because it introduces the Slaps and Robin Sparkles.

A good moment to use the last Slap would be to down Barney when he ínevitably tries to escape from his own wedding.

But if he's trying to get past Marshall, that would be a purposeful and functional slap and not a slap bet slap, which means Barney can slap back.

The slaps are unconditional if i recall correctly.. Marshall can deal them out anytime for whatever reason and even if he just felt like it.

So the last one might even do some good ;)

Every slap is conditional, that's why there's a smoking hot slapbet commissioner.
