Really can't believe the number of people complaining about a few pieces of classical music "snuck in."

The whole point of doing the Doctor Who Prom is to introduce children to the world of classical music and concerts.

Ah, and here I thought it was to celebrate the music of Doctor Who. My mistake. :p

Sure somebody must have posted this elsewhere, but can't spot it: anyway, the TV broadcast of the Prom is on Monday 26th at 5pm on BBC1.

They're not mutually exclusive. If Doctor Who was originally devised to encourage and develop children's interest in science and history, then it can do the same for their appreciation of orchestral music.

Three posts up. :p Is it on at 4 or 5 though?

My eight-year-old boy loves classical music because of Doctor Who. And we can't even get across the Pond to attend the Prom. I have several of the CD soundtracks from the show, including one permanently left in my car so that he can listen when he wants (which is often). But because he's grown to love the sound of orchestral music, he actually prefers the classical stations on my radio to the rock and pop stations.

It sure does! He'll actually want classical when I want pop! He's gonna have trouble with that in school soon, but I'll back him up as long as he'll let me.

"Holst, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, or Bruno Mars, boy?"

    "Holst, Daddy!"

    "Good boy."

So BBC just aired the prom on TV. They cut out the "Song for 50" for time constraints.

By the way, Trek is trying to catch up: music from Into Darkness is part of next Saturday's Film Music prom (along with Alien, Star Wars, ID4 and various pieces used in 2001).

Finally found a copy and I'm watching it now. Running time looks to be an hour and thirteen minutes, so excluding the intermission, it looks like they cut out about twenty minutes or so of material. :(

Still, its great to finally see the video clips, and find out what the audience reactions during the broadcast were all about.

Addendum: They also took out Vale Decem. One of the pieces I was looking forward to. :( I really, really hope they do an 'extended' version around the holidays, or at least on dvd.

Apart from the cuts, its was a really well done production.

In 2010 they aired two versions, one cutdown on BBC1 and the complete version a few days later on one of the other channels. So i'm positive that a complete version will be aired sometime. Probably not in the next days or weeks. When the Prom happened i seached for information on when it would be broadcast and found the information that it will be shown in november around the anniversary, i would guess the complete version will be shown then.

There's a reasonabe version on youtube.

Probably just assumption given that we knew they'd air it at some point

Showing a cut down as well as a full version seems like a really odd decision. Why even bother with the edited version?

They usually are, at least as far as I['m concerned. Charming and entertaining in the best ways, I truly wish I could attend one
