Apologies if I've missed a thread on this, but I picked up from Smiths yesterday part 1 of Eaglemoss' new Star Trek: Official Starship Collection partwork. Each issue has a glossy mag and a model of a Trek ship! (part 1 = £1.99. Reg price £9.99!!!)

Embarrassingly, I can't seem to find anything about it on Google, but I definitely have it!

It seems to have had little fanfare or launch, but has anyone else picked it up? Part 1 was the Enterprise-D and is excellent.

Eaglemoss is the company behind the Classic Marvel Figurine Collection, the DC Chess Collection, and many more partwork model-type releases.

    Sounds good.

At a tenner a magazine, that does sound a bit pricey so I might pick and choose the models.

Does it say how often it's published and what model comes with the second issue?

Hmm, it's a partwork so it'll run forever cost £1million to get all of them...

I might definitely get the first issue at that price though, and like you say Dimesdan, maybe pick and choose the odd model here and there.

Part 2 is the refit NCC-1701 from ST:TMP. Part 2 costs £5.99. It rises to the regular price of £9.99 from issue #3 which is the Bird of Prey.

By subscribing there are some free gifts, including a light-up Borg Cube model!

Get down to WH Smith as soon as you can! For £1.99, the Ent-D is great value, and the magazine is rather spiffy as well.

good luck finding it on newsagents shelves past issue 5 or so. when i was at Martins, we stocked the first five issues of a partwork on the shelf and then it went order-only otherwise they're a bugger to keep track of and to shelve.

from what i know, that's SOP for other newsies too. and even then you sometimes wound up with some bugger who orders it, collects the first dozen or so and then stops coming in and doesn't even phone and cancel the order so you wind up with 4 issues hanging about hoping someone will either randomly buy it if you shove it on the shelf or that a staff member might buy it, or you try sending it back hoping for the credit from the wholesalers...

    Goddam!
Eaglemoss have just canceled both the Marvel and DC figurine collections but now they have concocted another fiendish plan to relieve me of further funds.(truth to tell,I would rather have had a Trek figurine collection but these ship models sound spiffy).

SO EXCITED! I've been dreaming of exactly this for a long time. My googling had more luck: startrek-starships.com

I hope the Akira class issue doesn't take too long to come along, I think that might be the first official model of that ship ever?

I shall be making a dash for WHSmiths in the morning. Suddenly I feel very lucky to work opposite one!

Well done 8of5; when I got home last night, I found the web link was in the magazine as well!

captcalhoun - you're right, newsagents tend to stock up to a certain issue and no more (#7 of any given series seems to be the magic number round these parts!). However, there is subscription - either direct (and get the free gifts) or via your newsagent; specialist shops like Forbidden Planet will also stock them regularly.

flandry84 - I didn't realise DC and Marvel had been cancelled! I stopped collecting the Marvel ones around #60-something... it was a great series, but I'm not surprised it's been cancelled: "The Classic Figurine Collection" started with all the legends, but by the time you reach #150-something, you're scraping for characters.

I too would've loved a Trek figurine collection, but the ships is nice... and who knows? If it's a success, a figurine one may be along...perhaps to coincide with the next Trek film for maximum promotion. I remember reading an interview the Eaglemoss MD a couple of years back who said his dream next collections would either be Dr Who or Trek because of all the cool character/alien designs... so who knows!?!

They tried a figurine collection a few years ago. It only lasted a handful of issues though. I'm not sure if that was one of their limited trial releases or a abrupt cancellation.

I went into my local Smiths yesterday and thy didn't have it in, I even asked a assistant and she didn't have a clue what I was on about. Now I know the name, when I'm in town again later, I'll ask if need be, put an order in.

Curses! The subscription is only for in the UK! The ships look beautifully done, a big step up from my 90's Micro Machines collection, not to mention the line is going to cover ships that weren't in that line.

I can always look into a third party subscription, but then I won't get all those nice bonuses. Oh well.

Yeah, I think that was Deagonisti (another partwork company) - it certainly wasn't Eaglemoss, who I think tend to produce the higher quality stuff. It didn't even get out of the "pilot phase" (trialled only in certain parts of the country).

I got my copy of #1 of the Starships Collection from WH Smith in Swindon (Wiltshire). Down the road in Didcot (Oxfordshire) they hadn't heard of it, so I am starting to wonder if this is on a similar only-certain-counties type thing!?

/sigh. Living in America sucks on occasion. I'll keep a look out for these through Diamond, as the previous Eaglemoss mags have come across there, but unfortunately, that doesn't allow for the free gifts, and I'd love me a Galaxy-X.

Pardon me, but if this is about ship miniatures, then wouldn't it get more attention in a forum like General Trek Discussion or Fan Art, maybe?

I see your point - however there is a magazine that comes with the ship miniature - technically literature I suppose??

But it's a magazine for collectors, so it's still targeted at the modeling/tech/gaming/art audience more than the literature audience. So many of the TrekBBS patrons who'd be interested in this merchandise won't get to find out about it as long as this thread is in Trek Lit instead of the forums they frequent.

Find yourself some reliable international penpals! Invaluable, esp. when eBay brought in their "Paypal purchases can only be sent to the validated address shown on the buyer's account" rule.

Yep. I moved suburbs during the long run of the GE Fabbri "Star Trek Fact Files" and it was very tricky trying to get a local newsagent who'd restart my collecting at a mid point. My original newsagent was so diligent on my behalf. I had several hair-raising weeks trying to predict exactly how much notice to give the first guy, when the new order would kick in, and how long I had to try random shops all over Sydney for one-off shelf purchases.

I was chased out of the shop by one aggro owner! He refuses to pull any partworks because of bad experiences, being left with so many issues belonging to standing order customers who simply vanish. (Or return after a six-month absence and scream, "Where are all my issues?") He used to buy five only copies of each new partwork (after the first few issues), put them on the shelf and "When they are gone, they are gone". The pages would fall off the rubbery pad binding, they'd get severely dog-eared... A nightmare. I very rarely enter his shop, even twelve years later.

I have noticed that more recent partworks do strongly encourage individual subscriptions.

And vice versa, if it was only over there! I never go to the Tech sections, and often forget about General.

Sometimes there's a valid case for cross-postings, or at least a redirection URL.

I work in a WHSmith myself and we've not had any. Is it possible this is just a trial launch in a small area? That sometimes happens with partworks, just to test the waters before a national launch...
