When all else fails go Marvel.

What will happen when they control 2015 with "star wars" and "avengers 2"?

They'll really have nothing to worry about when the fifth Pirates film flops.

By 2020 Disney's live action movies will be nothing but Star Wars and Marvel movies.

Yeah, that was why I said live action. I had originally just said Disney, but then I remembered their animation and edited to specify live action.

Or just to stop green-lighting terrible scripts... ;)

The Jeddak of Zodanga means to quash Helium this very night, and if Helium falls, so does Barsoom. We must throw out the thought of old hatreds. Tharks did not cause this, but by Issus, Tharks will end it! We ride for Zodanga!

I'm a big scifi fan and can understand movies like "Inception" but "John Carter" just left me going "huh?"

The dialogue was so confusing. Just like that excerpt you posted i'm lost

"Jeddak of Zodanga" sounds like a bunch of nonsense to me.

Is it really any worse than say:

    Luke Skywalker of Tantooine ?

Princess of Mars (the book the John Carter film was based on was written around the time of World War I - and Burroughs was just trying to come up with unique names to illustrate Mars was an alien world.)

It's in how the story world is introduced and integrated into the rest of the tale. When asked to identify his planet, Luke doesn't say, "Tatooine." He explains, "if there's a bright center to the universe, you're on the planet it's farthest from." Not mind-blowing dialogue, but it situates Tatooine in the viewer's mind in a way that the dialogue from John Carter does not Zodanga is just a strange sounding name). Also, Star Wars used a lot of very familiar terms and concepts: Empire, Rebellion, Wizard, Smuggler, Stormtrooper and so on. Many of its constructs use familiar sounding terms Death Star, Star Destroyer, Millennium Falcon, Light Saber, Sand People. That makes Wookies, Jedi, Jawas, Banthas and so on easier to internalize. Its most esoteric line was, probably, "It made the Kessel Run in less than twelve Parsecs." Took me years to figure that one out.

No single quote can encapsulate the fail that is John Carter of M****. Suffice to say that, in context, yes, it is much worse - and I say this as someone who's read and enjoyed several old-school Burroughs pulp novels.

As the lengthy New Yorker profile on Stanton and the movie makes clear, the script was just never fully ready to shoot, even after filming started. Something tells me Lone Ranger was a similar situation.

There's no need for Mr. Beatty to be a dick about it. :p

It's not too hard to figure out.

Lucas didn't know what "parsec" meant.

    Mystery solved. :p

OK, good. I'm not real familiar with Dick Tracy, but I'm familiar enough to know that Johnny Depp is not right for him at all.
