Wow. Those little tweaks make a surprisingly huge difference. I can't wait to see the finished film.

Today is a sad day for "Yorktown: A Time to Heal". George Takei was never paid for his work on "Yorktown: A Time to Heal" in the 1980s, but he was obviously an official Star Trek actor. This new rule of not using any Star Trek alumni pretty much kills any chance of "Yorktown" getting finished now. We were planning on releasing the short film in December of 2016. I will try to reach someone at CBS to see if this new ruling can be "grandfathered" for Yorktown, but it doesn't look very promising at this time.

There's nothing to stop you from finishing it. It would be ridiculous to just drop it after all these years and all this work.

We are going to keep working on it. The issue is whether or not we will be able to post it online. I would show it to CBS before we ever posted it online. With a few small trims to the FX scenes we can keep it at 15 minutes. I would hope that the studio wouldn't make us cut out George Takei. We could do that, if need be, but George is an important - and historic - part of this fan film. I hope they could make an exception for this one.

I know you'll abide by whatever CBS/Paramount tells you. It'd be a gosh darned shame, though, if some unscrupulous person leaked the final product, though. ;)

I agree. That would be a shame, a cryin' shame.

I sure hope that never ever happens.

Wow. We don't need any encouragement here to anonymously violate CBS's fan film rules, do we?

Did you misunderstand? I specifically said it would be a SHAME if that happened.

Rest assured, we will be talking to the studio before anything ever gets put online. We will respect the studio and their new rules, and we hope something can be still worked out for Yorktown. Communication is key for that to happen.

I would say that if you can get permission to release it from CBS, you should try to release the full version if trimming VFX is proving too tight.

You and all the people who have worked on this over the years deserve that.:cool::cool::cool:

I've figured out your timing issue. "no more than 2 segments, episodes or parts, not to exceed 30 minutes total." Make it a two parter, but not by breaking up the film. Part I is "The Feature Presentation" and is 22 - 24 minutes long, just like you said. Part II is "The Making Of" and can just be you or someone talking about making the first part for a few minutes. As long as the two together don't exceed 30 minutes, you're golden.

Doesn't help with the Takei issue, though. I'm still hoping CBS will give you a pass on that part.

Yes, as I read it, the 15 minute rule is for "a single self-contained story". It then goes on to say "or no more than 2 segments, episodes or parts, not to exceed 30 minutes total." It does not specify that both segments must be 15 minutes long but that both segments must not exceed 30 minutes total.

It was actually *your* post 30 minutes ago in the Guidelines thread that made this click over for me, @Philip Guyott . :)
