Greetings! We've recently concluded our "Balance of Terror Line-by-Line" thread over in the TOS forum. After each completed thread, I'm randomly picking someone who participated to choose the next episode we do. The lucky winner this time around was Admiral Shran! And Admiral Shran has chosen the three-part "Vulcan trilogy" of "The Forge", "Awakening", and "Kir'Shara" as our next line-by-line adventure! For any unfamiliar with our "game," you are asked to post only a single line (defined as one character speaking without interruption by another character) per message. You can post as often as you like, but someone else must post a line in between your posts. As is our standard practice, we're doing these three episodes as a single thread. Our "rule" is that if the episode has a "To Be Continued..." on the end, it is done in a single thread, but if it's just an arc of related episodes, each episode is a separate thread. As before, at the conclusion of this thread, I will pick someone at random from among all the participants to choose the next episode we do. Enjoy!
United Earth Embassy, Vulcan Admiral Forrest: Admiral Maxwell Forrest's person log, I've arrived on Vulcan hopeful that the High Command is finally ready to conduct joint missions with Starfleet.
[United Earth Embassy] SOVAL: Admiral, the High Command will tell you its decision at the proper time.
Forrest: They're not telling their own Ambassador to Earth what they're planning? Welcome to the club.
Soval: We don't know what to do about humans. Of all the species we've made contact with, yours is the only one we can't define. You have the arrogance of Andorians, the stubborn pride of Tellarites. One moment, you're as driven by your emotions as Klingons, and the next, you confound us by suddenly embracing logic.
Forrest: I'm sure those qualities are found in every species. Forrest and Soval pass through security.
SOVAL: We had our wars, Admiral, just as humans did. Our planet was devastated, our civilization nearly destroyed. Logic saved us. But it took almost fifteen hundred years for us to rebuild our world and travel to the stars. You humans did the same in less than a century. There are those on the High Command who wonder what humans would achieve in the century to come, and they don't like the answer.
Forrest: We're not the Klingons. We only want to be your partners. To do what the nations of Earth have learned to do. To work together in common cause.
SOVAL: Unfortunately, the future of relations between our worlds is not mine to control. (There's a dull thud sound. Max looks back then suddenly grabs Soval and pushes him to the floor as the dust from an explosion billows towards them and the building starts to fall apart. Then there is a second explosion, and the top of the Embassy is blown off.)
HOSHI: Here! (she catches the ball but her shot is deflected to a stationary Phlox, who easily puts it through the hoop)
