Well, I watched my first episode this morning before work, I just have to say, "Button, button, who has the button?"
    (button = gun)

My bet is someone we haven't seen yet this hour, and the only one I can think of is silent Norma.

If you've rushed ahead and already know the answer... put it in a spoiler tag so I can resist the temptation to know the answer.

The video with this next link is a collection of interviews from last summer.

    http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/heading-orange-black-season/story?id=47937658

    OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sesame Street has done an OitNB parody!!!!!!

    http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat..._black_parody_reminds_you_to_eat_healthy.html

Evidently this ^^ was released last year by someone else, that video has 129,000 + views while the one released by Sesame street 4 days ago already has 145,000 views.

I like this line from the next article.

While Piper is ostensibly the show's protagonist, "Orange Is the New Black" is the definition of an ensemble piece.

    And this comment from Natasha.

"The show could almost be described as one long funeral giggle," says Lyonne. "The unprocessable is constantly happening in a way that all you can do is laugh at the inappropriateness of it, but at no time losing the awareness that this is a … funeral. This show is not a wedding."

And I really like Lea's description of Litchfield's actors.

The show has taken what cast member Lea DeLaria calls "a great little island of misfit toy actors from New York" — performers who hardly fit the classic starlet mold — and turned them into celebrities.

    Here are some teasing spoilers.

    Wow.

That is about all I can say.

    Wow. :mallory:

Oh and I'm really glad that after the marriage proposal

TPTB didn't pull the usual TV drama crap ... :angryrazz:

    spoiler

    spoiler

    spoiler

... and ice one or both of them before the ep ended.

Or maybe they did but we won't know until next year. :brickwall:

Love the fact that Linda is still in the general pop. :techman:

And really liked that at least 4 moms showed up to check on their "babies". :bolian:

    :sigh:

13 eps over 3 days in Litchfield time consumed over 36 hours in real time.

And now the series has at least 2 more years to run. :vulcan:

What the heck do they do for an encore?

I didn't care for the angle they took with Piscatella. Episode 10...wtf....

I also didn't like the cheap pops of humor this time. That guard's butt is forever burned in my mind. Curse you, jenji kohan. Lol. There are the background stories of people who didn't really need them; More piper past? Snore... however, this season was welcomed. I do not buy the three day thing. It felt like 7 to 10 but nice try. Season six could be interesting. There was a few threads left unraveled to keep us going but not shocking like last season. Which means I am satisfied and patience for next year.

It sounds like I don't like season 5 but I do.

Episode 10 was harsh... and yet it was set up back in season 4, when Piscatella honed in on Red for special torture. Making sure she never slept, grabbing her in the cafeteria and throwing her to the floor in front of everyone. IIRC, that was when Flores crossed ethnic lines and stood up for Red by jumping up on the table. The mere fact that everyone else followed suit must have burned Piscatlla's mother hating a$$ and when Caputo sent him home in disgrace, that hate just compounded.

They tried to give Piscatella some background so we might understand his hatred of inmates, but it didn't excuse his hatred of all women much less his hatred of mothers.

This season really did show the impact of moms and how much they mean to us, from Daya & Aleida shouting at each other outside the prison, to Suzanne sorting every platitude her mom spouted from the good (your skin is beautiful) to the WTF (don't go out in the sun, it will get darker), to Gloria & Maria's elaborate plans to get back to their children,Piper talking to her mom on the phone as she stood outside the prison watching for her baby, to meth-head Leanne 's shocking realization that HER mother was likewise camping outside.

We even saw the continuing negative effects of bad moms on kids when Ouije's son saw her cursing out the guards in the background of a Flaritza video, to the absentee effect of motherhood on Black Cindy's daughter when she was fighting with her (grand)mother. When Black Cindy sang Suzanne asleep, you know in her mind she was singing her own daughter to sleep.

The nice thing about Red's season 5 flashback is that we learn even from a young age Red had the "care for others" streak in her "genes" even before she became a mother. She took that streak to an extreme in the prison, gathering her "daughters" to her side as a protection to them and to herself. Watching her successfully mother her brood, whether they were heterosexual or homosexual, in such a vile place must have really pissed off Piscatella given how his mother treated him growing up in (?) suburbia.

His final scene didn't please me as much as the end of season 2, but it was close.

Laura talks pregnancy, OitNB and her new movie with Sam Elliot. "I don't regret anything..." :nyah:

ETA: She's directing again in season 6.

Haven't had time to sit through this one yet, but I have hopes.

ETA: Laura directed this year, but Nick (Caputo) also directed this year. Loved his comment re: the most difficult thing about directing was doing it in your boxer shorts for 10 days! :guffaw:(makes me think about the wardrobe Laura had to wear during her directorial debut.

Still waiting for people to catch up with season 5.

A nice interview with Danielle as she discusses Taystee's journey in season 5.

    I like this visual. :techman:

But even in that dire moment, Brooks sees a beautifully uplifting end to Taystee’s Season 5 journey. “It's a reminder that she's not alone,” she said of Taystee standing united with her fellow inmates. :ouch:

I (naturally) loved her comments on Kate. :mallory:

What can you say about Mulgrew’s performance?

Kate is just a pro. Truthfully, all these women are. Kate is game for anything. If it serves the scene and it serves the character and it makes sense and it tracks emotionally and is a smart decision, she’s game. She’s very elegant and powerful as an actress, so to take someone like that, who plays a character like Red, and make her weak on camera and see her break is a very hard thing to watch for the audience. She did a very beautiful job and totally trusted me. She was even game for the stunts. She wanted to do her own stunts to the point where I was telling her, “Kate, I legally can’t let you be...

Not everyone is in love with season 5.

I would argue that we "aren't" supposed to laugh at the revenge porn aspects of season 5 listed in this next review, that in fact we are (like Alex) supposed to be quite uncomfortable.

I liked seeing people from the past this season, although this was (OF COURSE) my favorite.

    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/orange-is-the-new-black-poussey-taystee-flashback-1012426

The only flashbacks I liked for Piper and Alex this season were the bar scene and the drunken Piper scene (which, strangely enough, was not the same scene.) :ack:

Oh, and I did like Piper's telephone call to her mom. :bolian:

    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/li...-prepon-taylor-schilling-q-a-spoilers-1013343

Morelli, the writer producer not the crazy character, discusses storylines this season and why last season's tragedy had to be Poussey.
This entire season is propelled by her death. Why did it have to be Poussey? Could any other character’s death have driven an entire season? :weep:

Jenji Kohan pointed this out in the room a lot when we were talking about wanting to do that storyline in season four and debating who would be the most effective character. We went back and forth a lot and ultimately it really came down to Jenji saying some things that I held onto that were so right on: Poussey had so much hope in her. You really feel the loss of that hope, of that smile. There are plenty of women in this prison that you think are going to stay in this prison, this is their life. But with Poussey, we felt like one day she’s going to get out and have a chance at life after this, and to be robbed of that felt like the right story way to go. :wah:

A spoiler free article with the OitNB cast.

    http://www.harpersbazaar.com/cultur...-is-the-new-black-season-5-interview-protest/

I never would have guessed that "skin head Helen" would clean up this good.

    https://www.popsugar.com/celebrity/Who-Plays-Skinhead-Helen-Orange-New-Black-43648940

Although I agree with Brad Henke that this deleted scene completely changes the motivation of his character... it also makes it harder to believe he would have burned that male inmate to death so I suspect that was why TPTB deleted the scene. :vulcan:

    http://www.vulture.com/2017/06/orange-is-the-new-black-torture-piscatella-deleted-scene.html

This line from the above link made me laugh in a macabre fashion.

Vulture talked to Henke — who speaks of Piscatella in the first person — about Piscatella’s humanity, the deleted scene that changes Piscatella’s story, and what it’s like having to torture your own director.

And this next line from the above link, made me smile for obvious reasons (see my name). :mallory:

Red is so fun to act with because I always feel like she’s judging me as an actor. I like that. If she thinks you’re shit, you’re gonna know it. At the end of the day, she gives me a little wink, and that feels good. :bolian:

Here's a take on the Wes Driscoll / Desi Piscatella storyline that I can agree with.

    https://www.bustle.com/p/who-is-wes...on-5-adds-more-to-piscatellas-backstory-63786

Funny, the first time through, I missed the fact that the ID Red found was a prisoner's, much less caught his name. Maybe I need some of Blanca's vitamins. ;)

A very interesting review (spoilers!) follows.

    https://www.vox.com/culture/2017/6/10/15766324/orange-is-new-black-review-season-5-netflix

The Pennsatucky thing she complains about bugs me too, but again maybe that's the point. We gave Bennett & Daya a pass because Daya seemed to be in love with him, but since CO / Inmate couplings are all considered to be rape because the inmate can't "give" consent, what's the difference between Doggett's fantasy and Daya's?

The cast speculates on season 6.

    https://www.bustle.com/p/how-orange...aves-room-for-new-stories-says-the-cast-63951

Maria - aka Jessica Pimentel's turn at the mic.

I am ashamed at how shallow I am. :alienblush: But neither Natasha's glasses nor Taylor's top look right for them.

Eight episodes into the current season. I'm surprised they devoted the entire season to the riot. But it's been interesting, they slipped about the right amount of comedy into it, but it's starting to feel like they should have raided the place by now, and the best they could possibly hope to come of their demands is to get rid of Piscatella.

Why is there a drained pool in the prison? What did the prison used to be?

Jenji et al. speaks. Elle talks about when Piper is expected to be released. Alex tells us during the riot that Piper has just 3 months left on her sentence. We still don't know how much extra time she'll get for her "riot" activities.

    Taylor on the airwaves.

"Welcome back the very talented, very cool, Laura Prepon." I seem to remember Laura saying her child is due before shooting begins on season 6. Here's to hoping the CHILD is aware of Laura's tight schedule or else Alex is going tp have some serious explaining to do to Piper when the two meet up in "whatever" prison they're sent to while Litchfield is rehabbed. ;)

Remember, 8 eps in are only about 36-48 hours and there are hostages and a gun in that prison.

The pool was part of the exercise program back in the 1970's. They lost funding early and closed it down, never to rehab it to a new use.

Seems like in the entire season there are only two winners.
Maria and Chang. Doggit's situation will end badly obviously but Chang is the one who never gets seen. I suppose you could also count the nun even though she did not appear this season. Her plot to save Sophia ended up saving her.

True, but although she was sick enough to be compassionately released, without health insurance and not covered by any employer health insurance, one wonders if she will be adequately treated outside of prison.

Your other winner, on the other hand, is probably a true winner as long as she doesn't fall prey to that bane of all felons, recidivism.

Very interesting, indeed and then, Mulgrew knows so well how to speak with her customary eloquence, about Red, her character and, her girls. :-D
(I hope that she will have a minima an Emmy nod for this season 5. Her performance was really good!)
