^ Well, I suppose so, but panspermia is more or less based on the idea that biogenesis is rare and that life in the universe is dispersed by dust/comets/asteroids/etc. Panspermia suggests that life on Earth came from somewhere else and that biogenesis did not happen on Earth. The point remains that if there is anything to the idea of panspermia, it argues against the idea of these viruses arising from a separate biogenesis event.
