I've been a fan of Una's writing for a long time; this exceeded my high expectations. :) Garak has grown and changed so much, but is still deeply recognizable. I loved the relationship he shared with Parmak. I loved the original characters and the political intrigue -- I particularly liked the detective, Arati Mhevet, as a narrator.

The interactions between Garak and Picard were compelling.

I stayed up way too late on Friday night reading the whole thing. I've been mulling it over since -- I'm definitely going to be re-reading soon!

    Good isn't it ?

Una is probably my favourite Trek author. I put off reading Never Ending Sacrifice for ages as it just didn't appeal to me. I eventually read it. It was truly wonderful.

    I'll read anything she writes.

Then you might be interested in her fanfic too!

I was the same. I stupidly didn't think I had any interest in it at all. I could not have been more wrong.

    Una McCormack fanfic?

    Must be Christmas.

Seriously though, she's super talented and basically the GO-TO author for anything Cardassian. Really wish she and Andrew J. Robinson could have a pow-wow and possibly a collaboration.

Her Doctor Who fiction is very good as well...

Some info about her two DW novels from my interview with her in 2012:

Crimson Shadow was a great read! One of the best of last year. I've saved Never Ending Sacrifice for the end of my DS9R readthrough. Una has a follower for life over here :techman:

This is one of my favorite books of the Fall series. She has an upcoming ds9 novel coming out and her fanfiction is really good. I read her ds9 fanfiction stories first before she professionally started writing ds9 books.I've been a fan of her stories for a long time.:)

I definitely want to go on a re-reading spree and visit her other books again after I re-read The Crimson Shadow. She's one of those authors where I think it can't be as good as I remember, and then it's even better.

Great book. Btw, there's already a review thread for it on the board, including a voting feature.

However, I can't find it anymore, even with the search function. :alienblush:

Thank you! I thought of that as well... but couldn't find it either. Oh well, the trappings of modern technology...

    Finally, the Review Thread: http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=226219

Yeah, it stands up brilliantly on it's own merits, not just as great Treklit.

I'll have to check that out. I normally void fanfic as it is often full of unsuitable crossovers and Mary Sue's, but Una's requires some investigation.

You have a real treat in store...

This is awesome. Who knew I still had some unread Una to go? Thank you!

If there's any others floating around, don't be shy about pointing 'em out! :D
