I bit the bullet and picked up the Ron Jones box. A lot of money, but what a savings! I'm not too familiar with his work, so I hope it's all as good as "Heart of Glory" and "The Best of Both Worlds."
Yes. I bought TMP and TWOK on vinyl but had moved up to cassette tapes by the time of TSFS. Youtube, indeed. Kids today don't know how good they've got it.
Reading this thread once again reminds me of how I miss 1980's Horner. Even 1970's Horner. I can even take 1990's Horner to a certain degree. But I can't name a single new Horner score in a long while that I had to have, loved, or even enjoyed.
Given the tragic news of the past day, I've been going through my collection of albums by Horner -- Mask of Zorro, Avatar, Uncommon Valor, Battle Beyond the Stars, The Rocketeer, Star Trek II, Star Trek III, Apollo 13. The man was a damn genius.
Ok the sale is long past. But I see Star Trek is only $19.95 compared to $39.98 on Amazon. Are these the same release?
The ones sold on ScreenArchives are the correct ones; they've never been wildly overpriced (as $20 CDs go, anyway.) Can't speak to what's on Amazon without links.
Love James Horner's music. I am so sad he's passed. His Trek scores were among his best. Searching through his scores and in addition to Trek II + III, I love Battle Beyond the Stars, Krull, The Rocketeer, Cocoon, Aliens, The Perfect Storm, Apollo 13, Willow and many more I'm sure.
