She would kinda capture the "tomboy-ish" aspect, certainly.

Just had a thought on casting for Min Zife:

    Christian Berkel.

He played Colonel Mertz von Quirnheim in Valkyrie a few years back.

"Any problem on Earth can be solved with the careful application of high explosives. The trick is not to be around when they go off. "

Well, giving Min Zife a German accent would certainly add a new subtext to the story...!

I'm sure he could hide the accent.

Some updated thoughts on First Splinter Timeline character castings...

Min Zife: Jeremy Strong (inspired by his performance in Succession) - granted he's a bit younger than I think I would tend to prefer Zife, but his performance in Succession really captures an important element of Zife, that of a man who is not a buffoon but who also keeps getting in over his head
Koll Azernal: Christian Bale (inspired by his performance as Dick Cheney in Vice)
Nan Bacco: Shirley MacLane. She might be too old now, but I find myself thinking a lot about her performance in the 2005 film In Her Shoes.
Esperanza Piñiero: Salma Hayek - she's in her 50s now!
Ishan Anjar: Charles Dance - inspired clearly by his performance in Game of Thrones
Kellessar zh'Tarash: Gillian Anderson - inspired by her turn in Sex Education, actually
T'Ryssa Chen: Chloe Bennett of Agents of SHIELD has the same sense of mischief and rebelliousness

Speaking as Nan Bacco's creator, no, Shirley MacLaine is not too old to play her at all. In fact, she'd be fantastic. Ditto Hayek as Esperanza.

I meant that I didn't know if she might be too old to be able to work in general, but I'm glad you like that casting. :bolian:

Regarding my suggestion re: Min Zife: I did NOT purposely suggest a German actor for the role because of the subject matter. I have just been watching Valkyrie a lot lately (it's become one of my favorite movies of all time) and that's why I've been in kind of a weird headspace.

(seriously. It is an AWESOME movie. Even Tom Cruise is tolerable. Please go rent or buy it!)

As for Nan Bacco: I'm kind of wafflilng, really. I used to be dead set in favor of Leslie Hendrix (L&O) but now I'm kind of thinking Amy Morton (Chicago P.D.).

While reading ST: PIC: The Dark Veil I see Lance Reddick as Medaka and Cassidy Freeman as Helek.

I said this in the Federation thread:

The Hunt for Red October-era Stellan Skarsgard as Adrik Thorsen.

Personally I got a strong hint of Ms. Annie Potts (of GHOSTBUSTERS & YOUNG SHELDON fame) while reading the Political Adventures of President Nan (aka ARTICLES OF THE FEDERATION); hopefully the mental image will amuse, rather than offend.

A few posts back I suggested Chicago P.D.'s Amy Morton for Nan Bacco.

I have been reading The Final Reflection a lot lately, and I also like her for Colonel Jael Rabinowitch.

Other TFR characters I have ideas about:

    - Lorne Cardinal (Davis Quinton from Corner Gas) as Admiral Luther Whitetree

    - Tommy Lee Jones as Dr. Thomas Jackson McCoy
    - Sir Ben Kingsley as Emanuel Tagore (I've come around to @Christopher's viewpoint on this)
    - Colm Meaney as Admiral Douglas Tancred Shepherd
    - Terry Serpico as Admiral Marcus van Diemen
    - Delaney Williams (defense attorney John Buchanan from Law & Order: SVU) as Maxwell Grandisson III

Strangely enough, I have absolutely NO idea about casting for any of the Klingon characters in the novel. I mean, I'd love to see who has the guts to play, say, Krenn, but I have not a clue as to who, specifically, could do it. Any takers?

    Hey, guys. Been a while!

I thought I’d share a few more random casting ideas that have jumped at me recently:

    Bryan Cranston as Elias Vaughn.
    Rinko Kikuchi as Prynn Tenmei.
    Pedro Pascal as Diego Reyes.
    Felicity Jones as T’Prynn.
    Angela Bassett as Afsarah Eden.
    Adam Driver as Ranul Keru.

    Thoughts?

Re-reading DC's "Piper novels" (Dreadnought! and Battlestations!), I can easily hear Judd "Scanner" Sandage's voice, and can almost picture him, but no actor really fits for me. Any ideas?
