Make up a fake bit of Trek trivia!

In the early days of pre-production for Voyager, Chakotay was an Eskimo. His ancestors had left Earth for an icy planet near the Cardie border. They were going to have his father killed by melting ice caps when Cardassians decided to warm up that planet to suit them.

 

The Cast of TNG was slated to star in a Wizard of Oz remake, with Picard as the Wizard, Geordi as the Blind Man, Data as the Tin Man, and Worf as the cowardly Klingon.

Troi was to play Dorothy, Beverly Crusher the Wicked Witch, and Guinan as Glinda the Good Witch . Spot the cat would play Toto.

The budget was projected to cost over $250,000,000, and was ultimately abandoned after an unnamed cast member demanded more money from the project and a private zoo for his or her backyard.

 

I hope I just made this up and didn't hear or read it somewhere. It just came to me earlier today.

The part of Commander Riker was originally supposed to be a female to be played by Majel Barrett based on Majel's first officer character in the original Star Trek pilot which clips of were used in the 2 part episode The Menagerie.

 

Originally in TNG, white was supposed to be the new color for Starfleet's medical division uniforms--but it didn't look good in early screen tests so it was switched back to blue.

 

Fact: Due to the equal compensation clause in the contracts of Nimoy, Shatner and Shatner's toupee, Shatner's toupee was to direct Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. But shortly before filming Shatner's toupee was killed in a car accident. Nicolar Meyer was chosen to replace it.

 

Patrick Stewart was cast as Captain Picard, because the producers felt he was the candidate who bore the most resemblance to the Enterprise-D

As Deanna Troi, Marina Sirtis was required to wear dark colored contacts over her lovely amber eyes, as a behavioral study to determine if anyone was actually going to look at her eyes

 

You sure it wasn't Sulu?
Definitely had to be Sulu.

 

FACT: Before they settled on Walter Koeing, they had considered selecting Patrick Stewart for the second season.

 

It was Sulu in the second draft, with Chekov and Scottie doing backup.

 

And the original lyrics were meant to be...

SULU: I'm so sexy with my sword/It's long and thin, so jump on board...

CHEKOV & SCOTTY: Woo-ooo!!!

Unfortunately, Chkov had a Russian accent, so he was saying, "Vooo" and Scotty was just saying, "Ach, lad!"

Star Trek '09 had an entirely different cast when originally greenlit. A dispute between Paramount and 20th Century Fox over a few if the actors' contracts threatened to sink both the movie and a new television series on Fox. Ultimately, the studios settled out of court by agreeing to swap the entire casts. Both Star Trek and Glee became huge hits for their respective studios, but to this day, Chris Pine refuses to sit next to Chris Colfer at awards ceremonies and on airplanes.

 

You guys are cracking me up with alot of these. I think I've got fairly good one here, however.
It's based on one of my 2 favorite scenes in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
In the original draft of Star Trek: The Motion Picture in the scene where McCoy beams aboard the Enterprise sporting that really thick beard and mustache, McCoy was supposed to have a shiny, bald head-(think Capt. Sisko in seasons 4-7 of DS9) and keep the thick beard and mustache throughout the rest of movie. DeForest Kelley had no problem with the facial hair but he adamantly and absolutely REFUSED to shave or wax his head. The script was rewritten so McCoy still had hair on his head but shaves off the facial hair in a "never was shot" messy shaving scene.

 

FACT: Brent Spiner insisted that his character be killed off in 'Nemesis', because he was sick of putting on all the makeup and accessories necessary to look like Data. But the real reason was that he couldn't keep off the weight and Rick Berman felt that there's no real feasible way to explain why Data put on the extra pounds.

 

Spock was killed off in TWOK because they felt Nimoy was aging too quickly for a Vulcan. They decided to bring him back in TSOS because Nimoy found a plastic surgeon that could make him look 20 years younger. But the poor doctor was killed by a bus before they were able to do any changes to the script and we ended up with the middle aged Spock again.

 

Hold on to your tricorders. I've got 2 for you.

Romulan Ale was originally supposed to be hot pink. All the producers, writers and directors associated pink with Valentine's Day and love and also laughter-(tickled pink). All of them felt they needed a cooler-(tempature wise) color to match the Romulan personality. One of the producers went to the bathroom. When he went to the sink to turn on the cold water to wash his hands, he saw a ring of blue around the c for cold. After he washed his hands, he went back and told the others about the ring of blue on the cold-water faucet handle and suggested Romulan Ale be blue. Everyone liked it and that's how Romulan Ale ended up being blue instead of pink.

Alexander Siddig was originally considered to play Quark. Ira Steven Behr felt Armin Shimmerman would make a better Quark. Ira decided Alexander would be perfect to play DS9's doctor.

 

The rank stripes on the Star Trek XI uniforms were deliberately designed to be cramped together so they all looked like a single stripe from a distance--a partial nod to the single stripe rank system used with the original Star Trek pilot uniforms.

 

Rumor has it that in the last scenes of "Symbiosis", when Picard and Crusher are leaving the cargo bay, Tasha Yar can be seen giving the camera the finger just before the door closes.


The Cast of Voyager was slated to star in an adult evening drama semi reality series about a sleazy model agency with dysfunctional clients.

Janeway was to play the scheming manager with a conscience, with Seven as a seductive rival with bi-polar symptoms. Tuvok was to play a part time playboy/ dentist/model.

Production was halted after demands from a unnamed cast mate called for a personal flying blimp as private dressing room.

Ultimately, the idea was canceled after Trek overload (and the producers saw how bad the whole damn script was)

 

FACT: Garrett Wang wrote an episode where Harry Kim stole a pip.
