I just saw this up on CBR? Anyone care to speculate? There were heavy rumors prior to San Diego Comic Con that Peter would be removed as Spider-Man (these rumors were tied in with the Brand New Day concluding news) but nothing came of them. Interesting and obviously controversial.

Oh my god!!!! They're going to kill Spider-Man?!!?! But he's their most popular character!!! He has a movie coming out, and a cartoon, and toys, and video games...

    ...

Unless... the death isn't real? They're just faking his death as a marketing ploy?

Would they do such a thing?

The funny thing is that they've chosen not to comment on the cover. I should have titled the thread Preview Magazine teases The Death of Spider-Man.

I am a sucker, though. I actually thought Steve Rogers was gonna stay dead when Cap-Bucky turned out to be so popular. I thought Conner Kent would stay dead too because of the legal hassles.

Knew Batman was coming back though :p

Nobody is ever really season comics, we all know this. It's dumb to kill Spiderman, they will regret it.

Of course Bruce was coming back, he was never dead in the first place. Obviously they're not going to physically kill Spider-Man but it is meant to be an attention grabbing teaser. I remember a few years ago when they released the cover to what eventually turned out to be Kaare Andrews excellent "Spider-Man: Reign" people thought it was regular continuity!!

I hate when publishers pull this sort of predictable stunt. The Death of Superman, Knightfall, the Death of Bruce Wayne, the Death of Captain America ... yawn!

If Jean Grey taught us anything, it is that comic book deaths are forever.

No, she's still dead, shockingly. I keep waiting for her return. I thought Hope was gonna be her reincarnation or something.

And yes I honestly thought Steve Rogers was dead. He just seemed to work much better as a martyr than as a living character. And Bucky was popular. And it was the whole commentary on Bush America and the end of the Marvel Civil War.

No...she's the White Phoenix still in the White Hot Room regenerating. Marvel stated two comic con's ago that they had plans for her and people speculated that Hope was tied in to another resurrection but this didn't happen. Emma has felt Jean's presence as has Rachel out in space. Marvel continues to say though they have no plans for Jean.

At the moment, Jean Grey's been established to either be alive, or "will be." They've taken the whole "Phoenix" thing to its conclusion.

Rachel has manifested the Phoenix force...this is how she felt her mother's presence.
