Considering the amount of money Disney is throwing at Star Wars, it's possible they'll buy Bad Robot out of their contract with Paramount rather than have him involved with "the competition". If that happens, Trek is a ship without a captain.

I don't think Disney would buy out Bad Robot's contract with Paramount, and I don't think Abrams would approve of it if they wanted to.

Besides, this is Disney, they wouldn't buy out the contract, they'd just buy Bad Robot. The Mouse would make Abrams an offer he couldn't refuse. Don't let that falsetto, cartoonish voice fool you, the Mouse is tough. ;)

Hell, maybe Disney will eventually buy "Star Trek". :)

In the future all franchises are Disney's.

Sadly, that's probably not far from the truth.

Studio condensing will surely continue, and in the end, there can be only one.

Is STID is a hit, Abrams should do the decent thing and make clear in quick order what his plans are for Star Trek.

Whether he will direct the next one or just produce or even give up production duties entirely.
When we will likely see the third movie (obviously 2016 would be ideal.)

Don't give a bunch of vague answers or promises.
If Star Wars is coming for 2015 or gets pushed to 2016 he can't be directing the next Trek unless it's gonna be 2018 or later--unacceptable.

Just make up your mind and tell us a concrete path forward.

Problem is, Abrams has quite a solid reputation based on vaue promises/anwers. It's his thing.

There isn't a clear path forward until we have a concrete production time-table and release date for Episode VII.

    Wrong.

If SW is 2015, ST 3 is doable in 2016. If they want to push it to 2017, fine - it'll be the same separation as ST 1 and ST 2.

You need to be the Kwisatz Haderach to see the path.

    Oops, wrong franchise.

It's looking more and more like Bad Robot may not be involved in Star Trek XIII....

    From trekmovie.com, post #790: http://trekmovie.com/2013/01/24/the-force-is-with-jj-j-j-abrams-to-direct-next-star-wars-for-disney/

I thought someone from Paramount already said Bad Robot would be producing the third installment?
