I should point out that I don't actually dislike any of these movies, but in any list, something has to come in last.

I can't really rank ST 09 in with the rest. I did enjoy it for the most part even with the poor writing and the gaping plot holes, but I just tend to think of it as a completely new franchise from all that's come before. Perhaps Into Darkness will change my mind... perhaps not.

The only one I truly dislike is Insurrection. It's the only one I haven't watched since getting the Blu-ray set.

Because TVH is an enjoyable, feel-good movie that's compulsively watchable and always leaves you smiling, while TMP is a worthy effort that's perhaps not as much fun to rewatch. I respect TMP, but seldom feel compelled to watch it again, whereas I always get sucked into TVH whenever I stumble onto it on TV.

The way I see it, they're both "true" STAR TREK films in the same way that "The Changeling" and "The Trouble with Tribbles" are both Trek.

(To be fair, I actually rewatched TMP the other day, for first time in ages, and it held up better than I remembered. But then I watched TVH and TUC again and, yeah, they're both much more engaging.)

I made a point of trying to rewatch TMP a couple weeks ago. Fell asleep again. I just can't get through it anymore.

I sometimes put it on when I can't get to sleep. Never fails. But I mean that in nicest way as I love it. It's Trek's warm glass of milk.

I've never actually watched the Final Frontier. It's always been on my to-do list... at a very low position. The fact it has such a terrible reputation doesn't help.

You definitely should. It has one or two good things in it, but the rest but the viewing time is spent trying to work out what everyone was smoking when they made it.

FRONTIER has a couple of excellent Kirk/Spock/McCoy scenes. It's worth watching for those.

Ensign Harry Kim ROFL that's brilliant.

Yeah the camaraderie of the TOS crew in FF is the only saving grace of the film. Everything else is pretty foul.

    1. The Voyage Home (my fave, chemistry among the cast was great)
    2. The Wrath of Khan (brilliant plot, great acting)
    3. First Contact (best action in all the movies)
    4. The Undiscovered Country (nice political intrigue)
    5. Star Trek (2009) (overall, great revival of the original crew)
    6. The Search for Spock (moves at good pace, big moments for the characters)
    7. Nemesis (underrated I feel, 2nd best of TNG era and interesting story)
    8. The Motion Picture (epic feel)
    9. Generations (nice to see Kirk and Picard meet)
    10. The Final Frontier (had some funny bits, nice seeing them camping)
    11. Insurrection (ummmm....nice to see Riker and Troi back together I guess)

    Best to Worst:

    Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan
    Star Trek VI: Undiscovered Country
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
    Star Trek: First Contact
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
    Star Trek: Insurrection
    Star Trek: Nemesis
    Star Trek: Generations

Star Trek 2009 is a different movie franchise really. Doesn't resemble Star Trek too much.

Yeah, I can only think of one slower-paced movie.
And it's an extremely obvious example.

That's preposterous. No matter what your personal preferences may happen to be at the moment, Star Trek resembles Star Trek quite a bit. In fact, Star Trek is Star Trek.

I concur that's mainly what it's really only worth watching for. The sfx and secondary stuff are a bit rubbish. But Sybok and the God thing are interesting, it's made with a lot of heart and has one of my favourite scores.
