Re: The Prime Alternative ~ Close-Up Views

Thanks :) ...we really appreciate the kind words! :)

The Gold, Blue and Red illuminated colors used on the ship were an attempt to mirror the TOS/ST09 duty uniform colors...http://www.empireonline.com/images/uploaded/star-trek-2009-uniform-detail.jpg

...the nacelle domes are clear and the warp plasma color is Gold and the impulse drive ports are deep red; but both look a bit orange in some of these renders ;)

Great stuff, as always, but ... you guys have really pushed the limits of image size - time to cut back to the 800 px that the forum rules request; images this large make it difficult to see even on large monitors and also slow down the load times. Since it appears that these images are mostly available on the site you have linked in every post, you might consider replacing your linked images with smaller versions.

Now that warp test was really impressive. Great job!

It did leave me with some questions...

Why were there two formation lights on the aft of the saucer above the impulse engines? I don't recall those in TOS, or from TMP/TWOK. I do remember 1 on the lower engineering hull, and fore/port/starboard on the saucer dorsal and ventral surfaces, and 1 on the aft of the bridge module. That looks to be from the JJ-prise.

The extra formations in warp - are those nebulae? Typically warp has been some form of streaked stars, where we can see forward into black space ahead. The still image appears a bit different, and I actually like it a bit better, if for no other reason than consistency with other representations of warp speed in other versions of Trek. Perhaps a bit more than streaked or rainbowed stars would be good, but I'm not 100% sold on the need for nebulae or other stuff in the warp effect. It's kind of like travelling at 100 MPH in your car - the mountains far away don't move too much, but the trees along the highway do. Or that's how I would look at it.

I'm not sure your take on this, but on the interior of the nacelles, it may be a nice touch to color the warp coils blue for linear consistency with the NX-01 and TMP Enterprise. To me it would look really nice, and could generate a nice effect while at warp.

The RCS thrusters on the saucer appear to be only top and bottom, and not on the sides. Are the nozzles adjustable or are there multiple directions on the top and bottom?

    As to your questions..
Q > regarding the two formation lights on the aft of the saucer above the impulse engines:
A > No they are not on the TOSE but, they are on both the TMPE and the JJprise - so we borrowed this cannon design cue from them : )
    JJprise Aft Saucer Formation lights
    http://trekazoid.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/tlw_enterprise_orthos1.jpg
    TMP Aft Saucer Formation lights
    http://www.thelightworks.com/images/gallery/web/uss_enterprise_ortho.jpg

This design cue made sense to both of us, as the saucer would require them in the event of saucer seperation from the secondary hull

As to your question regarding the design of our PA warp stream
A > No they are not nebulae. ;)
We were looking for an FX warp effect that would "Blend" the cannon warp effects from both the TMP and ST09.

    JJprise

    TMP
    http://movies.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/tmp2/tmpmissing/tmphd1141.jpg

    And even a little TNG
    http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x436/lordJeyl/trek09warp_zps43a14408.jpg

Ricky and I also considered the warp effect could look different as the ship moved-up the Warp Scale.(i.e.)...from Warp One, with just slow moving stars... to the higher warp speeds with ever heaver streaking stars…(seen in our render you pointed out) ...all the way up to the “Maximum Warp” FX effect featured in the render and Test vid above. :)
This could then also be a good reason for all the diffrent representations of warp speed seen in other versions of Trek.
    --- it's a thought :)

Regarding your thoughts on the interior color of the nacelles..
A > The color the our PA Warp Coils are indeed Blue-White!

    http://madshipyard.com/ThePrimeAlternative/Images/Wallpaper/12_LeavingPandora_Final.jpg

Again, borrowing design cues from both TMP (blue) and ST09 (white)

As to your question regarding The RCS thrusters on the saucer appearing to be only top and bottom, and not on the sides....
    A > See link :)
    http://madshipyard.com/ThePrimeAlternative/Images/Wallpaper/08_PandoraAsteroidsFinal.jpg

They are the same design as seen on the TMPE...
And Yes, our RCS Thruster are also vectored thrust!

Thanks again for all your kind words about Our PA E and Class F shuttlecraft, Drydock and pods on the TPA thread. :)

Mr. Wallace and Mr. Carthew .....I am at awe at what you all have done. I can't even mesh the Phesarius from Corbomite manuever (just a bunch of spheres), though I like to think I do alright with rendering. I can't wait to see the studio model of this thing in all its glory. As far as meshes go, this one beats them all.

Just one thing though, and this is directed at Madman Ricky Wallace. Do you think its possible to create multiple variations of reflecting surfaces? I was thinking in those renders how you see the mosaic pattern, but they dont "Mirror" reflect at angles....well come to think of it, your Version 5 JJprise did it quite well.

Take a look http://www.trekmeshes.ch/publicgallery/images/JJprise_Orbit.JPG (you might remember it from your site, i posted it there as well when i posted that defiant-was quite proud of both those renders when they came out so well on first render, goes to your excellence in meshing)

As you can see, some of the panels reflect the light more intensly than the others. I think that look would go well for this mesh...Just a thought. This thing really outstanding as is.

    Thanks guys. :)

Hi Mycroft... I definitely remember. :) What you are seeing there is the specular part of the texture. In Blender, I use 2 texture maps on an object; the color texture, which is of course just the color image you see on the model, and the specular texture, which reflects light from the texture depending on how dark or light different parts of the texture are, combined with what angle the light is coming in from.

On the STXI Enterprise, it has a really extreme specular texture, to make it look like it did in the movie. This is an example of what the saucer textures look like on that one:

(Color Texture on the Left, Specular on the Right)

For the Prime Alternative Enterprise, we wanted something more subtle.

As you can tell, not as much of a difference. But, definitely noticable, as you can see in this video, about 50 seconds in.

Hope that makes sense, and go make some more pictures. :)

Ah ok. I see now! Once I find me a picture host, I'll start posting renders here at TrekBSS. I actually got a couple I'm really proud of. I may not be able to build meshes, but I love to make renders. Btw, love the "Cars" and "Planes" avatar!!

    Forward: from Darren Jamieson < startrekblog > | October 31, 2013

Hey Rick, follow the download link for an MSD I had commissioned for your Prime Alternative Enterprise.

    It’s very cool.

I have asked for an image of just the ship so I can do an LCARS version and a TOS Movie version for you, and one in colour.

For now, enjoy this ine based on JJVERSE

Really loving the renders and the concepts here. One thing to point out, though: It's Matt "Jefferies", "not "Jeffries" ;).

    - or my name's not "Geoffrey" ;).
