I think that music may be the key to him remember what he's forgotten.

    I'm just sayin'.

I noticed that this is labelled as a commentary thread, but I don't see any review threads for this episode, so I'm just going to write mine below.

I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's premiere; I'm so happy that Fringe is back!

The opening to the episode is really chilling, as are the scenes between Walter and the Observer (the close-up of Walter's eye bleeding was pretty disturbing).

I felt like this episode packed a lot of different elements in, and it worked well. We got some powerful emotional elements with Olivia reuniting with the rest of the team, and the Peter/Olivia moment later on. We get shock with Walter's torture by the Observer, and we also get a delightful smattering of his humor as well.

I absolutely loved the moment where the Observer appeared and went "Resistance is futile.":lol:

Although, I was a bit annoyed that Walter was reverted back to a sort of "brain-damaged" state again, after that was supposedly corrected in "Letters of Transit" after he'd had pieces of his brain removed by William Bell years ago. It just feels like the writers keep jumping back and forth with Walter's state of mind in that sense, and I would like there to be some sort of permenant choice made on that front.

I honestly groaned when Markum appeared on the screen. Don't get me wrong, he's a well-written character; he's just one of those seedy guys that you'd rather not know in real life. And the whole thing he had about Olivia waking up and realizing that she loved him? :wtf: Man, that guy is weird.

But all in all, an excellent episode and a fantastic start to the final season. I eagerly await more :)

(A side note: I loved all the puns you guys came up with ).

It was a good episode. For me it did take some time to get used to the whole "resistance" idea rather than the usual fringe event outline in the previous seasons. I am hoping that the gaps in the history between Season 4 and Season 5 do get addressed. I felt kind of sad for the resistance fighter that got left behind when Etta broke into the prison that Walter was held in. :(

Sorry about that, I ran out of room in the thread title, so I couldn't write anything beyond 'Commentary'.

Now we know how the Borg originated!

Thanks. Sometimes we just can't seem to help ourselves.

Yea...Considering during his interrogation the observer talked about how they don't understand music and that September tried to understand humans more than the other observers makes me think Sep hid the plans within songs in his memory so no other observer would be able to find them.

The scene would make more sense if it was a dream sequence because I don't think CD's would survive being out in the open that way. I've had some destroyed just from getting some slight water dripped on them in a basement.

Great episode. Above all else, John Noble stole the show yet again.

Here's hoping Henry Ian Cusick returns at some point this season.

I don't know about anyone else, but the sight of Walter in his underwear and robe reminded me of Leonard Nimoy in the Bruno Mars music video "The Lazy Song." I half expected that song to start playing on the CD.

No worries, I just looked at it and thought "Wait, is this just a commentary thread?" But there were no other threads, so I just thought that this would be the best place for it. :p

More time travel, methinks. Once the Borg are done with this time, they travel back a few thousand centuries, and after an unfortunate accident with some pesky nanities...POW...the AU Borg origin story. ;)

How have I missed that video? Well, I've seen it now, awesome. Actually, I think that might be one my favorite music videos ever, definitely a classic.

Am I the only one who got a vibe off the opening of the "Daisy Ad"?

    (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63h_v6uf0Ao) for the unaware.

Also, my local TV guide shows "Glee" this Fri at 9:00. Am I misreading something?

I thought it was a pretty good episode. Not the best they've ever done, but I enjoyed it, and I look forward to seeing where the arc of the season will go.
    My Rating: Very Good.

I'm a few days behind. I watched it on Friday and I'm giving it a Very Good. I'm glad they're just going all out. This is a radical departure from the wandering of some of the earlier seasons for sure.

Anyone noticed they dropped Blair Brown and Lance Reddick from the main cast list?

Both are alive according to Letters of Transit from last season, the episode that set up this storyline.

No, I didn't notice that. Kinda surprised since they seemed to be starting to play a bigger role in the story. I was surprised that the actress who plays Etta wasn't added to the main cast.

I'm wondering if it's a contractual thing, meaning they're only gonna pay them for the episodes they're in.

I know with 24, if a main character wasn't in the episode, he or she wouldn't be listed in the main cast credits. They actually spoiled someone's involvement in a plotline by crediting her and she didn't show up until the last five seconds.

I finally got around to watching the season premeire and I very much enjoyed it. Fringe in this future should make for a fascinating storyline. I take it Walter is back to more loopy Walter now.
