Wait, I don't have to watch the Mets for the next 6 months?!?!? Nice! Oh shit, what am I going to watch when there is only football on 3 nights a week?
Yeah, pretty amazing run by Oakland. It'll be interesting to see if they can keep the momentum going. As a Twins fan, I'm glad to see the season come to an end. Last in the AL again, but at least there were three other MLB teams worse than them. And they did manage to improve slightly- only 96 loses vs. 99 last year. Also glad fantasy baseball is over- first I lose a playoff game in the TrekBBS league by a tie-breaker, then I lose in in my yearly league by another tie-breaker.
I'm not surprised at all by Valentine's firing. I don't blame him for a lot of the things that went wrong this season, but he really didn't do himself any favors, either. I just hope they don't take two months to hire his replacement this time.
Too right. Perhaps there is a kernel of truth to the "smear machine" in general, but in this case, Bobby deserved it. So who's going to be the next Sox manager? Varitek? They always say catchers make the best managers, and AFAIK Tek is pretty much the anti-Bobby in terms of the level of respect that players, fans, etc. have for him.
A kernel? Name one big-name player or coach who's left that team in the last decade or so and hasn't had a complete hatchet job done on them. The only difference here is that Valentine brought a lot of the shit upon himself. They're expected to make an aggressive play for John Farrell, and it's known that he wants the job, but AA would demand a pretty hefty sum in return (if he'd even be willing to let Farrell go in the first place, which isn't guaranteed). In any event, the manager was pretty low on the list of "things that are wrong with the Red Sox." Still can't get over that Youkilis trade.
^That is awful to read through. I'm interested to see how this one game wild card thing pans out. I'm not feeling it. Just get rid of the all star game deciding homefield in the World Series and you can add all the wild cards you want.
I like the wild card setup. It kept even more teams and cities interested in September ball and it gives advantages to all the division winners.
Too bad I moved out of the area so early in the season, I can imagine by September it was a 100 mph shitstorm. I would have enjoyed reveling in my coworkers' misery.
Nice! My only playoff experience was Game 2 of the NLCS in 2006. Well that was a waste of hard earned money.
What the hell's going on at Turner Field right now? I can't see any of this but the radio guys are saying that the Atlanta fans are tossing debris onto the field?
