Not really, my Engineer's Galaxy could single-handedly fend off 3-4
KDF players in Kerrat. Granted, I only managed to blow up one Bird of Prey due to my low dps, but their combined firepower could not take me down.

I guess I'm just unimpressed with it's turn rate. A BoP can just hang out in my torpedo blind spot no matter how fast I turn or what direction I go.

The Galaxy really is a brick, especially when dealing with escort type ships. Maybe use tractor beams and RCS consoles to deal with the more nippy opponents?

Yes! I felt the same thing! :rommie:

So I wanted to add another admiral level ship to my stable, and picked up an assault cruiser for a change from my fleet escort. But man, do those ships require a different set of BOff skills. As a result, I've expanded my BOff slots and added a couple more tactical officers whose abilities are more beam related rather than cannon. I think I'm going to go so far as to create a full bridge crew for both styles of ship--Cruiser and Escort.

I'm not good in the assault cruiser yet. The borg blow me up so freaking fast. I can actually keep my escort intact for far longer. But I love the look of the Sovereign.

The thing is with the Galaxy... you don't need to turn if you set her up correctly.
Yes, a BoP can sit in your torpedo blind spot, but then it has to deal with 6-8 beams which won't kill it instantly, but after it's initial resistances are gone will make it run like hell.
And if you unleash a FAW II it's a sight to behold.

Just say byebye to doing alot of burst damage.

Depending on situation you can provide sustained support damage to keep your enemies on your toes, but mainly you can soak up so much damage in a Galaxy and/or heal your teammates while doing that.

If played correctly the Galaxy is a phenomenal anchor in a battle for the rest of the fleet.
It has so many engineering abilities, maybe even one to many... the last engineering ensign is a bit redundant, at least on the VA version.
That's why you probably prefer the assault cruiser, starcruiser (has a sci ensign instead over the galaxy) or Odyssey if you got access to it.

That said, even a Galaxy Class can give a BoP a little torpedo scare if you hit evasive and reverse engines to turn really fast.

Yeah, I have to say, I love my Galaxy. I'm a Rear Admiral/Upper Half, and I alternate between her and the Tier 5 ships in a few missions. Her beam coverage is excellent for fighters, she's still tough enough to hang in a firefight, and she's resilient when it comes to stationary targets in STF missions, freeing up my teammates to go after mobile targetes.

A good Galaxy Captain and a good escort Captain will stalemate each other. The Galaxy will cause enough damage to give the escort a scare but probably not enough to destroy it. However, the escort won't have enough firepower to cut through all of the Galaxy's defenses.

From my experience, in PvP levelling a pure PvP Tac/Escort char (well, Tac/BoP, slightly different from a pure Escort):

    - Escorts put the "prey" in "Bird of Prey". Eng/Escort slightly more resilient prey. Defiants go boom, Hermeses go boom and Prometheuses go boom.

    - Tac/Cruisers=long fight, but they go boom eventually.

    - Eng/Cruisers or Sci/Cruisers=endless stalemate.

    - Science Vessels=I'm toast. Especially Sci/Sci.

Anyway, while levelling my Sovereign char, I quite liked the upgrade to Galaxy. I don't understand how you'd feel weaker with a higher-tier ship, given all the upgrades it comes with (more BOFFs, Consoles, Weapons, Hull, Shields)... though yes, it does turns slowly.
Just be glad it turns faster than a Bortas/Bortasqu'.

It was per toon the last time I used it (which was about a week after iit because available); don't take this the wrong way, but:

    - Did you have an open Doff mission slot on the alt character?

    - Did you have the right Doffs needed to assign to it available?

    - Did you have 1000 unrefined Dilithium on that alt character? (it will only take 1000; no more and no less.)

If the answer to the above was all 'yes', it's either a bug, or they changed something (which would suck.)

    Yes

    Yes

I will have to check. I was pretty sure that I had 1000 unrefined dilithium on the second toon. I'll try it again this weekend and see what happens.

No offense taken, and thanks for the response. :bolian:

New easy question: If you buy new characters from the C store, do you also get the starter's amount of new bridge officers, or do you have to just use the ones you already have?

Each character has their own set of bridge officers. Don't be fooled. Sometimes bridge officers from two different characters may have the same name and even share the same face, but they're different individuals who can wear different gear and learn different skills.

My guess is Starfleet has learnt cloning techniques from the Dominion.

The Galaxy class and varients are popular. It makes a really good tank. My baby is the Excelsior Refit, but it's a C-store purchase.

Don't understand the question about the bridge officers. They generally stay with a character. Some can be transferred to another player (then back to another of your characters).

Been out of town a lot lately. Had difficulty getting into my account. Later saw the posts about Cryptic resetting everyone's passwords. They should have put a banner up that everyone needed to update their passwords for security reasons. Of course that would have required "Customer Service" thinking on Cryptics part.

I picked up the 600 day VA ships. So Doc Lee finally gets to move out of the barge (Odyssey) and into the Intrepid Refit. Will take a little adjustment getting everything optimized for the new ship but should be more fun to play. Jasmine took the BOP refit, but is staying in her carrier for now. Trying to decide what role the stealthy BOP would be best utilized for.

I had the same problem. Not been able to get online much in the last month and I came back to find my password didn't work. Guessed that cryptic had done something like that.

Admittedly, this week I've been spending a bit more time in Diablo III and less time in STO. However, I still do log-in daily just to issue new assignments to my duty officers.

I had a lot of problems with this ship initially on my Science Officer - mind you, I attempted the mission at the level you can first obtain it, so not sure how the Sitesh scales to RA. Since learning a few tactics for D'deridex class, I've been able to beat it - died a couple of times in my Intrepid, but beat her first time out now I'm levelling a Tac Officer in an escort.

Get a PBAoE damage power. ANY damage to a Heavy Torp will destroy it, and with PBAoE you don't need to take weapons lock off the main target... Beam Fire At Will has too high a chance of not hitting all three torps in time, for my liking. Photonic Shockwave or Tractor Repulsors will save your skin - the latter is my preference since it locks onto the warbird herself once it's destroyed the torps, and the knockback gives you some distance. If you can remember to save those up to fire off when the torps get within range, you'll survive. About the only thing the Romulan ship can do about it is luckily down those systems with Viral Matrix or subsystem damage.

If you can't polarize the hull to remove the tractor beam, try Evasive Maneuvers - it won't break you free, but you'll be able to turn better which helps keep a strong shield facing the warbird... even if you destroy the torps, her disruptors are still gonna hurt if focused on one facing for too long. Jam Sensors if you can.

Assuming you have a shield repair and can boost your weapons enough to keep up a slow, steady stream of damage on the Sitesh, you'll wear her down.

tractor beam is only effective within 5km range. When it locks on to you and you hit evasive you get your turn rate back once you get past 5km.
