In light of the Seaon 6 Starbase update coming, have a discussion topic I put in the STO Fleet thread. Just advertising here because think more people read this thread...

Speculative explanation: because the Constitution is too old.
Wait before you launch into a rant about other Ships being as old and used at T5...

    Not in-universe old, IRL old.
All the other ToS-era Ships are either from the movies or have been adapted to fit TNG-era visuals, the Constitution (especially the pre-refit one, which I guess is the one you'd want?) has not. So, its "crude plastic model" design wouldn't fit amongst a bunch of "CGI-drawn" designs. It'd look jarring.
It does when you fly it at T2, and that's the post-refit version.
Why not just use the Sovereign? If you think about, it's actually more visually similar to a (much) more streamlined Constitution than to the Galaxy.

Anyway, I've got a bad feeling about the Fleet Ships.
First I heard of them, I thought "cool, Ships that can be earned and rival C-Store Ships!"
Then, it was "there are 2 versions and the good one requires a C-Store token."
Now, it's "there's only 1 version. The other option is for those that want to fly lower tier Ships at T5 without giving up too much (Saber-R, that kind of thing), not actual upgrades over those obsolete RA Ships you're using, dirty peon!"

So yeah, sounds like MOAR P2W. Will wait for the final release.

I decided to put my Gal-R into storage while I work on creating an escort build for my MVAE, and I must say the results are impressive. I went with a phaser/quantum torp setup and I am just tearing through the other ships as if they were made of paper. It's one of my better builds that I've done. Here's my setup :

Fore weapons - Quad phaser cannons, Dual Phaser Cannon MK XII Borg, Dual Heavy Phaser Cannons MK XII Borg, Quantum Torps Mk XII Borg
Aft Weapons - Phaser Turret Mk XII Borg, Phaser Turret Mk XI (will upgrade when I get another Prototype Borg Salvage), and Quantum Torp MK XII Borg
    Shields/Deflector/Engines - MACO MK XII
Sci Console - Borg Console, Field Generator MK XI (Rare), MVA module
Eng Console - Monotanium Alloy MK XI (Rare), Neutronium Alloy MK XI (Rare)
Tac Console - 3 Phaser Relay MK XI (Rare), Zero Point Quantum Chamber MK XI (Rare)

What used to take me a couple of minutes to destroy now only takes seconds. A burst of cannon scatter volley III followed by torpedo spread III and anyone in my path is almost gone. Now to try that build in an STF...

Guys, I think I've nailed down a strategy to easily take down Donatra's ship in KASE but I need some help confirming the theory. Basically, I recently heard that she doesn't cloak or fire her conical thalaron weapon if no ship is within 5km radius of her. While testing that rumor, I think I've stumbled upon the actual rule that Donatra uses.

If her aggro target is more than 5km from her, she simply chases after her target.

She never cloaks, never fires her thalaron weapon as long as her aggro target is more than 5km away. For this strategy to work, you need a good tanking ship that can absorb all of Donatra's conventional attacks. Make sure the tank attacks Donatra first to establish aggro and just keep kiting her, making sure to stay at least 5km away from her ship. The rest of the group simply follow safely behind Donatra and batter her down.

I have tried this twice and both times, Donatra ends up chasing after me and never cloaked. My problem is, someone was also using energy drains on her and as a result we have no idea which action actually stopped her from cloaking.

I'ld appreciate it if someone can help me test and confirm that this strategy works.

What the hell is "aggro"? Is it such a long word that it strains everyone's fingers to type out?

It's a 15 year old piece of industry jargon. It's not short for something; that's the entire word. That's how jargon works.

Edit: for an example of this, see this article:

    http://www.gamefromscratch.com/post/2012/03/29/I-want-to-make-an-MMO-Now-what.aspx

It contains a small piece of an MMO's source code. Just this piece alone has the word "aggro" in it 11 times.

It answered the snarky, accusatory part of his question. Your link doesn't answer that part.

As someone who didn't know what aggro was till a few months ago, I focused on the first part of the post because it seemed like a legitimate question. I didn't get anything accusatory from his post. Snark, yes, but then I like that. Your mileage may vary, of course.

Apologies if my first reply was terse. :)

Ah. Got it. Doesn't seem like such a unique concept that it needs it's own terminology. Just another example of people needing exclusionary jargon to feel like they're more special than anyone who doesn't know it.

I really enjoyed the game from Feb 2010 up until Season 4: Misfire. Not only did Cryptic change up ground weapons and kit abilities (I found out later this effected my ground PvP to the extent it made it thoroughly unenjoyable,) but they also implemented the ridiculous ques for Fleet Actions.

Somehow that last change completely effed up my game, as any and ALL of my (20) characters who were in (my own) fleets became unaccessable. Anything and everything that is team/fleet related - even a request - sends my comp into a system crash.

So for a while I was able to play non-fleeted characters, then whatever maintenance they did in mid January just completely sealed the coffin, and all characters send the comp to the "blue screen of DEATH." Tried multiple times to get help in the forums and with tickets, but got no help, or bot tickets saying my comp was the problem. Oddly enough, Champions Online works fine. At one point, Storm Shade claimed he'd look into, but that was about 1 year ago this month.

    You do the math.

So yeah, basically I went from loyal fanboy to disgruntled troll in a matter of days. I really do miss the game. It was my first MMO, the PvP matches were amazing and I had hours of fun playing it. Too bad it's just a memory now, but like Kirk says...c'est la vie...
