And I will list Quantum of Solace and The Day the Earth Stood Still when I see them (once the DVD's are released).

Does The Clone Wars count as a movie?

Also, what was the name of that movie where Kevin Costner had to decide the presidential election? Haven't seen that yet, but plan to once the DVD is out.

    I don't think I even saw 10 movies in 08...but here's a partial list:

    1. The Dark Knight
    2. Iron Man
    3. Bolt
    4. Kung Fu Panda

Yeah, but why would it count as one of the ten best of the year? Was it the scene where the droid army couldn't keep numbers straight, the introduction of Capote the Hutt, or when Anakin & Asoka snuck past enemy lines by hidin' under a box?

    Swing Vote.

I must just like movies alot. I saw pretty much anything that had
a large release and then some. I can never get enough theatre time.

    Here's my top ten:

    The Dark Knight
    Transsiberian
    Standard Operating Procedure
    In Bruges
    Forgetting Sarah Marshall
    Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
    Cloverfield
    Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog
    The Bank Job
    Iron Man

There are others that probably would be there had I seen them (Wall-E seems to be on a lot of top ten lists, and I'm pretty sure I will like Charlie Kaufman's Synecdoche, New York).

I only saw 10 movies this year. Since I cannot recommend them all, I offer a Top 5:

    1. Wall-E
    2. Bolt
    3. Star Wars: The Clone Wars
    4. The Dark Knight
    5. Iron Man

    Honorable Mention: The Forbidden Kingdom

I finally saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button last night. I don't think it's a serious Best Picture contender--the pace is too slow at the beginning, and it never really justifies the framing sequence which further pads out the running time. Still, it was a good film (just not a great one) and I'd recommend it, even if it's the weakest Fincher work I've seen (Alien 3, Se7en, Fight Club, Zodiac).

It doesn't really. I just listed it because I haven't seen 10 2008 movies, only those four.

And for the Swing Vote title, thanks.:bolian:

    1. The Dark Knight -- Add my voice to the chorus
    2. W. -- Extremely underrated, and this comes from a Republican
    3. Slumdog Millionaire -- A movie that just makes you feel good
    4. Burn After Reading -- The Coen Bros. always deliver
    5. Vicky Christina Barcelona -- Great performances all-around
    6. Lakeview Terrace -- Also underrated; a powerful look at racism
    7. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button -- Not Fincher's masterpiece... but, man, did Cate Blanchette look beautiful
    8. Iron Man -- Enjoyable, but growing more overrated by the day
    9. Zack and Miri Make a Porno -- Best comedy in a year full of disappointing ones
    10. Cloverfield -- Refreshing take on the monster movie genre

I post this list with the caveat that any of these films could get knocked off once I see The Wrestler, Let The Right One In, In Bruges, and The Bank Job.

I haven't seen most of the Oscar-bait stuff that only gets limited release in December yet, so mine is seriously incomplete. The Dark Knight and WALL-E would definitely be in the top 5; Iron Man and The Duchess would also be on the top 10.

Totally agree; saw it last night.

There's definitely a place for it in my top 10 of the year.

Uhhh.....there are only another 3-4 2008 releases beyond these ten that I've seen, and even a couple of the ones I've listed were viewed on an airplane, in which case I wasn't really seeking the movie out. Most of the movies I've watched within the last year were on DVD, and more than a few years old. I don't watch that many current movies anymore.

I am interested in seeing "Let the Right One In" though. But I have no idea if/when that's ever going to make its way to Australia.

You didn't miss out. "Appaloosa" was a let down. Rene Zellwegger's pinchy faced posturings, parts that drag on too much and anti-climatic face-offs...subpar at best. The best thing I can say was that set designs/locations were good.
