My purpose in life is to give all the atoms that comprise my being something to do until they dissipate into the void. I was an exploding star once you know, oh how the mighty have fallen!
To me, it's my faith, my friends and family and my music. Those three (four?) things mean the world to me and of course there are many other things that I enjoy like films, tv series (parks and rec at the moment ), photography (when I get the opportunity) and occasionally even the odd sport. To the OP: Find something(s) that really matter to you and stick with them, be that hobbies, time spent with people you care about or whatever you like. You'll soon find that there is meaning. Also, love.
Oh god yes music. Music and mathematics. The best way to forget yourself is to immerse yourself in the beauty of music and mathematics. They are two different forms of the same ultimate truth. We are very very fortunate to be able to comprehend them.
While I can understand the enjoyment of music, I am personally convinced that math was created chiefly to alternate between annoying the hell out of me and irritating the shit out of me. Math is evil. What I REALLY don't understand is why everybody laughs when I say that 1 plus 1 is 11, 2 plus 2 is 22, etc. You put two 1's together, you get 11. That's how it works. Why this is funny, I'll never know.
I agree, there's nothing funny about addition. Especially in base 1, which isn't a proper base to begin with.
1) Get the hell out of Washington, DC 2) Get a large dog 3) Make movies to entertain, delight and enlighten
That's my point. I was tested and proven to have a math learning disability when I was seven years old (as if cerebral palsy wasn't enough!). When I was a kid, my mom, my aunt, and my grandma would help me with my math homework and they would ask me "what's 2+2?", then they'd say 22. Then laugh. When I'd ask what was funny, they'd laugh again and tell me that was an "old joke". I didn't get it, but when you think about it, it DOES make sense. You put 2 and 2 together, and you get 22. If it helps any, my family WAS nuts....
