It is inconceivable to me how anyone could come to any kind of conclusion --in any sense of the word-- that characters such as Kirk, Spock, McCoy, et al would ever behave as they are portrayed in this story, or would be characterized as such hate-based individuals. The level of bigotry inherent in the piece is only exceeded by the fatuity of it.

Truespock, you should be ashamed of yourself. Not for writing the piece (however despicable it may be, never mind that it is anathema to the origin of and whole point of what Star Trek is supposed to be about) but ashamed because you are so utterly incapable of defending your words without resorting to petty insults and bickering. I would genuinely be interested in hearing your reasons for not only writing this piece but also why you think writing something like "Legitimately gay" is the kind of thing that shouldn't elicit the kind of controversy it has.

In short - what was going on in your head when you wrote this thing?

When I first joined here years back, someone jacked my regular nom-de-boards, starbase63, and was impersonating me here, so I took this name...

Careful mentioning Han Solo in a slash-fic thread. I'm seen some Han Solo/Chewbacca slash that would act on you like the Ark on a Nazi in Raiders Of the Lost Ark.

I shouldn't HAVE to 'defend my words' against this ravening wolf-pack. I can't help but notice that NONE OF THE REST OF YOU DO!!

Life is full of things we "shouldn't have to" defend or explain. The very fact that your piece has been met with such reaction however, provides an ample opportunity for you to expound on your ideas and the origins of your conceptualization of this story. Why did you write it? What was its inspiration? What motivated your plot? Is there any motivation?

These are not attacks. These are questions.

Perhaps I shouldn't have been so blunt with my disgust over your story. Perhaps I should. I don't know. All I know is I am genuinely trying to engage you in a legitimate discussion right now. I'm open to hearing your motivations in writing this piece, because as it stands I don't really think much of it. As the writer, I would think you would want to collect as many supporters of your work as possible, and part of that involves what i like to call "creative negotiation" - in simpler terms, convince me why I'm wrong to dislike your story.

To answer your question (pointless as it obviously is to continue to respond to this malicious idiocy on the part of several of you), I originally posted this pair of stories on a Trek site that was being overrun with a barrage of terribly graphic and discomforting slash pieces by ONE PERSON, who apparently just got a kick out of rubbing the rest of our faces in it. My stories seemed, at the time AND now, to be a creative means to express the more traditional viewpoint. I've intended no 'basis in hate' and tend to think that I have understood the message of tolerance inherent in Star Trek (certainly NOT something which I am seeing any hint of in THIS group's responses to me!) at least as well as any of the rest of you do. I considered my stories to be a gentle, non-confrontational notice to the gleeful slasher in question that perhaps she might do well to seek out a more appropriate venue for what many of the rest of us viewed as simple and offensive pornography.

Ironically (NOT!), my position on this subject is IDENTICAL to what I said about 'Elementary"...which ALSO caused an inordinate number of you to crap your cyber-pants on the spot:

I AM INTERESTED ONLY IN THE INTEGRITY OF THE ORIGINAL, WELL-ESTABLISHED, ICONIC CHARACTERS! YOU THINK THAT'S SOME KIND OF CRIME?!...SO SUE ME!!!

Let's make it ever simpler: Think of what I've written as my attempt at playing 'Devil's Advocate' in a manner that mightn't seem quite so confrontational. "Wouldn't it be interesting," I wondered aloud, "to see what these fictional characters might think about having their basic parameters so drastically altered by their own 'fans?" Ironic? Yes. Edgy? Possibly. Hate-filled? Absolutely not!

Perhaps those of you who are familiar with my postings on Trekspace will belatedly remember the pages and pages I devoted to the support of the intrinsic right of people to read / write / enjoy K / S slash as much as they liked?! In fact, that support was mainly directed at THE VERY SAME INDIVIDUAL who, I believe, later so abused that support.

    Still feel like lynching me?!

Well, no one posts slash fiction here, so why did you post those stories here? And why can't you answer normal questions in a normal way without wiriting in all caps and without getting really close to flaming? I suggest you take a deep breath and calm down a little before you post.

And no one is trying to lynch you. Please be less melodramatic.

I sincerely do not believe my posts are the ones that are idiotic here.

So you posted these here because...? To share your literary skill? To express your frustration about an issue none of us knew about? Is the person these stories were meant for even a member here?

Really. Would you care to cite an example in support of that claim?

You're still posting here, despite the fact that nobody likes what you have to say. You're still a member here despite the fact that your story sends an overtly ignorant and prejudiced message. I'm trying my damnedest to be the better person here and try to understand where you're coming from. You aren't making that easy.

"Non-confrontational to the gleeful slasher"? How are the gay and lesbian members here supposed to interpret it?

"Seek out a more appropriate venue"? Like you did, posting these stories here where none of us would have any inkling about what these stories were written for to begin with?

Dude. Telling you your critique of a show is full of shit is not the same as crapping our cyber-pants. I'm not interested in fighting about that argument here.

LOUD VOICES! YOU SHOULD TAKE ME SERIOUSLY BECAUSE I AM TYPING IN ALL CAPS!

You make a big cry for the integrity of original, well-established iconic characters. Where did Kirk ever express anything resembling judgment or hatred toward gays and lesbians?

You're trying to use satire without actually understanding what satire is; instead of taking the time to learn, you're just bludgeoning us over the head with your opposite view and calling it "integrity."

Once again, you've all proved to me, in record time, that there is nothing for me here AND (quite unnecessarily) bolstered my 'faith' in humanity into the bargain. Thanks for the ride, kids.

Best wishes to all and good luck...you'll NEED it!

Yeah, well, since there doesn't seem to be much of a point to this thread, I'm closing it before the conversation gets too heated.
