I made up a class for a kitbash-Excelsior that I made because the model I ordered came defective. Instead of returning it, I mounted the nacelle bump to the bottom of the saucer where the neck would've gone so that the nacelles and the nacelle struts are inverted. The result resembles the Centaur but is actualy quite a bit different (and looks a whole lot better IMO). I call it Great Lakes-class, and the ship is the Thunder Bay NCC-4512. I even listed other ships in the class and they're named after prominent features of the Great Lakes on Earth, like how the Danube-class runabuts are named after Earth rivers.

Not sure if Terrell was noteworthy enough to get a ship named after him, but it looks really nice.

As for my own name ideas:

    -USS Atlantis
    -USS Nemesis
-USS Gemini or USS Mercury (named for the manned space programs, not the constellation or planet. I think either sounds really good as a class name too).
-USS Hokkaido (we've already had two ships named for Japanese islands, Kyushu and Honshu. Why not a third?)

I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking Starfleet ship names have been overly Earth-centric, but that's hindered, as there's few famous people or places from other Federation worlds that ships can be named after. "Enterprise" helps that somewhat, since you could say many of the guest characters were historically significant.

In other words, you could have a USS Shran, USS Soval, USS Kuvak, USS Telev, USS Gral, USS Thoris. USS Shras, USS Tholos, USS Sopek...

-USS Phlox would be a good name for a Pasteur-type hospital/medical ship.

If you need some shuttles, since shuttles are traditionally named for explorers and scientists:

    -Robinson (for A.G. Robinson)
    -Erickson (for Emory Erickson)
    -Salk (for Jonas Salk)
-Duvall (for Duvall, who broke the warp 3 barrier)
    -Young (for John Young)
    -Borman (for Frank Borman)
-White (for Ed White, since Grissom got a ship, and Roger Chaffee got a shuttle)
    -Sato (for Hoshi Sato)
    -Hillary (for Sir Edmund Hillary)
    -Sonak (for Commander Sonak)
    -Bohr (for Nils Bohr)
    -Galen (for Richard Galen)
    -Hubble (for Edwin Hubble)
    -Tereshkova (for Valentina Tereshkova)
    -Leonov (for Alexei Leonov)

There are loads of possible name origins; mythological gods and creatures, military leaders and battlefields, ground-breaking scientists, social activists and campaigners, respectable politicians, places, previous ships, and on and on :).

The real possibilities are endless. But then there are all the future famous people between now and Trek time (250-odd years), and of course all the same types of people on alien worlds.

If you want some random names thrown out then here it goes:

    U.S.S. Athena (Greek goddess)
    U.S.S. Bannockburn (historic battlefield)
U.S.S. Churchill (British Prime Minister during WW2)
    U.S.S. Deliverance
    U.S.S. Einstein (scientist)
U.S.S. Farnsworth (named for Hubert Farnsworth in Futurama :))
    U.S.S. Gagarin (Cosmonaut)
    U.S.S. Hagharff (alien origin)
    U.S.S. Isis (Egyptian goddess)
U.S.S. Jupiter (Roman god and a planet)
    U.S.S. Kumari (Andorian ice gutter)
    U.S.S. L'Neye (alien origin)
    U.S.S. Mandela (Nelson Mandela)
U.S.S. Noel (a medical ship named after Doctor Helen Noel)
    U.S.S. Orpheus (from Greek mythology)
    U.S.S. Pieces (zodiac sign)
    U.S.S. Queen Elizabeth (British monarch)
    U.S.S. Renown
    U.S.S. Saaryn (Vulcan origin)
    U.S.S. Titanic (infamous cruise liner)
U.S.S. Ulysses (novel by James Joyce)
    U.S.S. V'aa (alien origin)
U.S.S. Wildeblood (Peter Wildeblood, gay rights campaigner)
    U.S.S. Xott (alien origin)
    U.S.S. Ytok (alien origin)
    U.S.S. Zenith

In light of James Cameron's record-breaking exploration of the ocean floor, I think the Cameron would be a really nice name for a shuttle.

Speaking of record-breaking, perhaps the Baumgartner would be an appropriate, if less elegant, name for a shuttle.

The S.S. Montana for an Aerie-Class medium transport / tender, usually dedicated to the Starfleet Corps of Engineers for boneyard recovery assignments, marshalled to a Utopia Planetia-type parking/orbital station that acts as a local farmers' market type trading station. I could see that.

It's strange, you can spend ages trying to think up a suitable name for your starship and get nowhere, yet I plucked USS Majestic out of thin air for my challenge entry this month and I instantly fell in love with the name!

That's a very nice name. Perhaps for a little science vessel or something? :)
