I only know McCarthy as the funny cook on Gilmore Girls.

    I win. What's not to like? :p

Damn, now I want Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel in the movie.

    I mean: Gilmore Ghostbusters!

Pure. Win. I'd even love it if they decided not to feature any ghosts...

I had to do a double take on this, as I glanced at it and thought it said Nutbusters...

Isn't that the very definition of most comedies? People being awkward over and over again?

I'm still not seeing the issue here.

I think I get it: if it's a funny movie with men than it's a comedy. But if it's a funny movie with women it's a chick flick.

That makes all the sense in the world...

I just noticed that the cast are all under 50 which comes across as incredibly ageist to me.

And the other day I heard this guy say something bad about America. He might be a terrorist.

And then I heard someone else say they loved their country. Sounds like a nationalist.

Oh and a girl I spoke to said she didn't like an all female cast Ghostbusters idea. Definitely SEXIST!

On the contrary, the fact that he wrote "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" is an accomplishment of unquestioned, unqualified GENIUS.

Easily the best cult film of all time.

"In a scene like this, you get a contact high!"

    [Doing my Anthony Hopkins imitation]

Why, Locutus, your problem is you need more fun out of life!

    [/Doing my Anthony Hopkins imitation]

You're being (Joker voice) so serious.

I'm merely explaining why I'm not watching Ghostbusters 3, and yes, I'm ranting too, but this is a message board! I can rant a little if I want to.

    Can't I?

    I haven't disrespected anyone.

    Have I?

You on the other hand. Well...you ARE being the tiniest bit disrespectful and personal.

But that's ok. I forgive you. We ARE geeks and get passionate about these things.

Rest assured. While I am ranting about Bridesmaids, I also think it's important to retain a little sense of humor.

If there's anything I've learned in this board the last 6 or so months is that "sense of humor" gets lost in translation. (And that sometimes, certain people are a little too quick to hit the reply button.)

The same cute photo of the judge?

Surely, you can find another still to convey your (nebulous) point?

The photo has already been used, so it has lost its power.

    Try again.

I wouldn't mind an update to Ecto-1, but you do remind me of something I would like to see, or rather hear: Ecto-1's siren! I don't know why that irritating sound seems so iconic to me. I won't have a fit if they don't use it, but it would be nice if they did.

Re: Ghostbusters reboot: We're (almost, maybe, sorta) ready to believe

I don't think the arguments comparing Bridesmaids to Ghostbusters hold water. I'm reading a lot of reaction on the internets: "Bridesmaids sucked so this Ghostbusters will, too."

Yes, the director and actors may be the same but... how can you possibly compare wedding capers to catching ghosts? Two very different activities. We could compare similarities if we absolutely have to:

    • Tension, sweating
    • Being slimed
    • Large monetary payments

There will not be a scene with McCarthy shitting into a sink and describing it.

Last I checked, did Hangover have a scene with one of the guys shitting in a sink?

Anyway, yeah, we're all just ranting at the moment.

    Let's see what happens.

Like I said earlier, Ghostbusters 2 sucked. So I don't anticipate the third one being any good.

And with Bridesmaids boxoffice clout? I'm not entirely certain that there won't be a studio push to make it more like Bridesmaids. And therefore, chick-flicky.

I bet that came across as very profound and well said as you were constructing it in your head, didn't it?

Why do you assume that mildly mocking the exaggerated terms you're using to describe having to watch a movie you didn't like is being too serious? I was poking fun at the silly over-the-top way you described having to see a dreaded "chick flick."

Besides, if having someone tell you your opinion is starting to sound a little ridiculous is the most disrespectful and personal thing you encounter on the internet this month, you're doing fine.

Becausssssssse you're attacking me personally? (Granted, very mildly.)

I'm ranting about Bridesmaids, but you're getting personal.

And that's usually the first sign that someone's argument is beginning to unravel. They feel their defense of said topic isn't holding water, and so they get emotional and turn against the person arguing against them, getting away from the topic and into a personal discussion.

No big deal, but I noticed it.

Anyway, Ghostbusters 3 is going to SUUUUUUCK. :)

@EnriqueH you keep referring to this as "Ghostbusters 3" when that's incorrect. It's not the third film, it's a reboot that will be titled "Ghostbusters" that may or may not have a connection to the previous two films. It's a brand new iteration. As pointed out previously in the thread any film attempt entitled "Ghostbusters 3" is dead.

You know, that brings up an interesting question. What would an updated Ecto-1 look like today? While the original was iconic, I believe the comic book and the animated series did play around with different designs, didn't it? So, what would they use as a base model?

In fact, I don't think I'd mind at all if they initially started in the beginning with something fairly simple and upgrade to something more fancy later on.

Just throwing this out there, but.... I'm imagining they could go in the direction of a jilted dead ex-husband of one of the busters as one of the ghosts they have to bust ;)
Imagine the headlines: Dead Ex-Husband Terrorizes City!
