In anticipation of reviews hitting tomorrow and some sneak screeners being reported it's time to get this thread up and going. Hope it meets the expectations all or in part of everyone who helped make the lead up thread a big success. Like all our movie tracking threads it's a team effort. :techman:

This of course is the last piece in the Marvel Movie Universe lead up to The Avengers which opens May 2012!

Not a great sign that there's no reviews yet.

If I had a dollar for every time I read that.
I guess people forget that few movies have reviews out more than a few days till release.

Reviews are embargoed until the 20th, supposedly because the studio wanted to avoid them getting drowned out by media articles on the success of Harry Potter (I guess we'll know if that's accurate when we see).

Here are a few tweets, etc. from people who've seen it (mostly comments on RT or Twitter, a few from actual reviewers).

Oh, the 20th. Must have misread something, thought it would be today. Very curious to see what the critics think if only cause the masses will take their queues in large part from them on a first, untested entry.

Looks like some positive buzz there. I haven't read Captain America for decades, but I've been very intrigued by this film. I want to see it and I hope it is consistent with the advance buzz I'm hearing.

The only downside is I have no interest to see it in 3D and I resent having to pay extra for something I don't want. 3D doesn't work well for my vision and I find it too distracting.

The Citirix people are having one of their product demonstrations and this Thursday showing Captain America after the product demo. Yes, they hold it AT a theater. The last one I went to they showed Tron: Legacy. If we weren't having a conference in the building for which I might need to be on standby for I'd go for sure. Stupid conference!

I can't wait. I've been on a huge superhero kick for the last few months so this should fit right in. Along with Thor and X-Men:First Class, I've been working my way through the first seasons of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Batman The Animated Series, Superman The Animated series, and the DCU DTVs. And I'm planning on starting a bunch of DC and Marvel comic series as digital comics.

I'm giving it a b-.....bordering on a c +. It was fun. It was entertaining. But it also felt rushed as hell. It certainly felt more like a set up movie than anything else. I will say this though, it has me very excited for the avengers

Hmm, still early, but so far it's looking like reviews are going to be fairly mixed for this...

Hmm could this be like Iron Man 2 where Iron Man took a back seat for setting up the Avenger's movie?

I haven't seen this one yet, but I dislike how everything is taking a back seat to the 'shared universe'. Iron Man 2 would've been better without Shield or Fury. They should just concentrate on the individual characters, and worry about their stories. Don't worry about the stories of other characters or about trying to 'connect' everything. They didn't even have to mention Fury or Coulson until the Avengers movie. In Thor they got away with it. Maybe in this movie they don't.

I disagree on peoples complaints with IM2 but that is neither here nor there.
I've read several critics who think it works fine on it's own and others who think it's too Avengers crowded. I think it's just a hollow point of complaint. An easy target when one doesn't want to look at the story but yet get invested on the sidebar.

Captain America is working it's way up the RT score and was at 54% last I looked, up from 33% off the bat this morning. Metacritic was 59% not too long ago.

Looks like the common complaint so far is that it's just another generic, by-the-numbers superhero flick. It might be better executed than GL, but apparently it's still about as thin and simplistic.

If that's the case, then fine by me. I don't need every superhero movie to be some epic, profound Dark Knight kind of thing.

Yeah, for me the biggest issues were the lame and uninteresting villains, and a distinct lack of action. Neither one of those had anything to do with the Avengers scenes.
