May be that was the line that couldn't be reworked due to the screenwriters' strike! ;)

But seriously, the line is good as is. It really conveys what that line means. Thrusters on full!

It is likely the final line we will ever have from one of the original crew - of any series, let alone TOS. I don't think it's unreasonable for people to want it to be something special.

I'm yet to see any better ideas though.

    Yeah, that's it...

And now my spirit is doubly crushed.

    Or something.

OK, the definitive last line for Spock should've been: "This will not be our fathers's star trek."

That's how I took it too and I started to have a bit of water in my eyes. Then they just killed me with Nimoy saying the speech and TOS music.

    Nah, you think? :guffaw:

 Yeah, and after the shout, everyone assembled below stops and looks up, "Who the hell is that?"

"YOUR EARS SAY THERE'S SOMEONE HERE, SENSORS SAY THERE ISN'T!" And he runs like hell out of Starfleet HQ.

I was expecting "Helm, ahead one-quarter impulse power."

    Maybe that's just me.

True. And seriously, as I said above, maybe it would've been better if we just saw him standing there, taking it all in. Perhaps with a look of satisfaction or approval. Mabye even a very slight smile or even chuckle, as if what he is seeing had triggered a pleasant memory in him.

If he had said nothing in that scene, then wouldn't his last line have been the one he delivered to young Spock? He gives the Vulcan salute and says, "Good luck." Says it all on many levels. That would've worked for me as Spock Prime's final line.

Terrible terrible line. What was Abraham thinking when he wrote that?

A better line would have been something to the effect of "good luck my firneds. Space is your frontier now. Smooth sailing. Aye aye."

That line would have also been weird.

What was Abraham, Martin and John thinking when they wrote that line about "To proceed with bold entreaty unto where no man had gone, before now, but not after"?

He should have said, "THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT! THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT!"

"The Cubs Win the Pennant" is an obvious non-starter.

Maybe he should have said, "This isn't canon! This is a disaster!" and stormed off.

Maybe someday there will be a movie where a crazed Cubs fan goes back in time to pull Bartman's glove out of Alou's way.

^ Maybe that's what Nero was originally trying to do when he came back in time.

I think Spock's ending line was not the best it could have been. Since I'm not a screen writer, I'll leave what it should have been to someone with those skills.

And speaking of lines, the "Hi" line by Nero didn't seem to fit properly.

No, just leave their little hearts crushed; we were south siders. U of C campus neighborhood, before we moved out here to our little house on the prairie.
