We have a local radio station that starts playing Christmas music on November 1st. I should add that the ONLY plays Christmas music from November 1st through December 25th. I can't believe that people get into that early.
Personally I don't start getting into it until early December, certainly the two weeks leading up to Christmas is fine by me, but prior to December 1st is just wrong in my opinion.

I'm not listening to any Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. The stores around here put up their trees before Halloween. How can you put up a tree to celebrate the solstice when we JUST PASSED THE EQUINOX?!

My favorite Christmas song is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. I also really like Mary's Boy Child.

I think it's odd that winter songs, like Jingle bells or Baby Its Cold Outside, aren't played after Christmas. It is often colder and more snowy after Christmas.

Medieval and classical Christmas songs are my favourite, including Handel's Messiah. I prefer traditional carols over more modern ones. Guess I'm just an old fart. ;)

My current favourite Christmas album is Annie Lennox's from a couple of years ago. I've always been a bit fan of Annie, and her versions of traditional carols are just stunning.

We have a radio station in the Bay Area (96.5 KOIT) that plays holiday songs earlier and earlier each year. They used to play Christmas songs only on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Then one year, starting from Thanksgiving Eve all day the way through December 25, it was Christmas songs 24/7. Last year they started on the weekend before Thanksgiving. I actually tune in whenever I'm in my car or in the office.

    My favorites:

Nat King Cole: The Christmas Song
The Ray Conniff Singers: Twelve Days of Christmas, What Child Is This
    Bing Crosby: White Christmas
    The Drifters: White Christmas
    Dean Martin: Winter Wonderland
Percy Faith & His Orchestra: We Need a Little Christmas
    Elvis Presley: Blue Christmas
Brenda Lee: Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree
Elmo & Patty: Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer
Perry Como: Home for the Holidays
The Eagles: Please Come Home for Christmas
    Jose Feliciano: Feliz Navidad
    Boston Pops Orchestra: Sleigh Ride
Burl Ives: A Holly Jolly Christmas
    Bobby Helms: Jingle Bell Rock
Andy Williams: It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
    Josh Groban: Oh, Holy Night
    Celine Dion: Oh, Holy Night
John Williams (Home Alone Theme): Somewhere in My Memory

I dislike the some of the more modern/contemporary holidays songs, especially R&B renditions or anything by Mariah Carey.

Spent all of last December in Boot Camp. Apart from a church service on the afternoon of Christmas Eve, during which I nearly bawled through every song (and I'm about totally over Christmas normally), I didn't hear any Christmas music at all, and that was just fine by me.

I did miss the f*** out of my old audiobook recording of The Polar Express, though, especially since the buildings of Great Lakes looked not entirely unlike van Allsburg's North Pole.

    Yes, I loved those.

As for other great Christmas songs, you just can't beat this modern classic

Another favourite performance is this rendition of a great song by various musicians a few years ago:

The entire show was highly enjoyable. :)

    Well, if we're listing favorites...

"White Wine in the Sun", as I posted already, is my favorite. It beautifully and perfectly encapsulates how I feel, and contrasts wildly with my next favorite:
"Oh Holy Night" -- A beautiful and powerful song whether or not one is a believer
"Charlie Brown Christmas" -- the entire album. It would actually be n my top 10 Desert Island list; it's just solid jazz all the way through.

Normally I start listening right on November 1st, but I'm not really digging it this year. Having a hard time finding the "Christmas spirit". Bah humbug.

I absolutely hate The Twelve Days of Christmas. By the end of it, I just want to kill the bird! As far as my favorite Christmas carol is, I don't have just one. I enjoy the old standards and religious carols.

^For me, it's the Chipmunk Christmas song. If I hear that one more time, I'm going to take a life. Jack Bauer could use that song to torture people.
