I thought it might be interesting to share any Trek and non-Trek reading goals we have for the new year.
    My Trek related goals:
Read the rest of SCE. I'm reading #16 Oaths, in the fourth omnibus right now.
Finish the Vanguard series. I only have two left so this one should be done pretty quick.
Catch up on TNG, Titan, and DS9 and stay up to date.
    Start IKS Gorkon.
    Start the Rihansuu books.
    Read more pre-2001 Trek books.

    Non-Trek Goals:
Catch up on The Dresden Files series. Currently reading book 7 of 15.
Catch up on The Hollows series. Up to Book 4 of 15.
Catch up on Kate Daniels series. Up to Book 3 of 7.
Start Women of the Otherworld series.
    Start Mercy Thompson series.
    Start Kitty Norvile series.
    Start October Daye series.
    Start Sabina Kane series.
    Start Rivers of London series.
    Start Watersong series.
    Start Syrena Legacy series.
    Read more Discworld.
Finish The Hunger Games trilogy. I already read the first 2 so this one will be quick.
    Start Divergent series.
Start Under A Never Sky series.
    Start Maze Runner series.
    Start Legend series.
    Start Maximum Ride series.
    Start Obernewtyn Chronicles series.
    Start Lorien Legacies series.
    Start Percy Jackson series.
    Start Artemis Foul series.
I'll throw in some other stuff as I go along, but this is the stuff I want to have done before the end of the year.

    Star Trek reading goals:
    - catch up on the 3 2013 TOS books I didn't get to last year
    - the first 150 years of the Federation book
    - stay caught up on all the books/ebooks to be released in 2014 as they come out
    - a big chunk of if not all the 14 numbered Voyager books I haven't gotten to yet so I can be done with them. this is going to be brutal
    - maybe the 2nd Shatnerverse trilogy, the Mirror Universe one

the long term goal is to eventually read all the pocket books but i've got about 95ish of those left so I'm just setting some goals each year. this year was pretty much a wash, I barely got ahead.

    Non Star Trek reading:
    - I've read about two thirds of Charles Stross' books. I want to read at least 4 or 5 of what's left.
    - I've read 7/11 of China Mieville, I want to read at least 2 of what's left
    - The second Patrick Rothfuss book
    - A bunch of Cordwainer Smith
    - Some more Maigrets, I've only got about 10 left
    - Some more Hard Case Crime
    - Start in on the Montalbano's
    - Looks like Joe Haldeman has a new novel coming out. And want to start in on the short story collections
    - I've been meaning to check out Iain M. Banks.
    - Some Joe Abercrombie, at least the 2nd book in the trilogy
    - Stephenson's Reamde
    - S by Abrams/Dorst

I think that's enough for now...

    Some goals...

-Enjoy all the 2014 treklit releases. I plan on getting more in 2014 than in previous years.
-Finish my KRAD Klingon re-read before his book comes out in May.
-Finally read all of the Vulcan's... books including Vulcan's Forge and Vulcan's Heart. I only ever listened to the abridged audio versions.
-Really break into the DS9 relaunch. I have all the novels, but have hardly ever gotten into them. I read Avatar in 2001 and Unity, but I haven't picked them up in years..
-actually read Blind Man's Bluff, PAD's last NF book. I was saving it, but it doesn't seem like he'll be writing any new ones, so i might as well finish off the series

    non trek related
-finish off my Chuck Klosterman collection
    -read Ron Burgundy's book
-continue to beef up my 400+ large graphic novel collection

Since I'm up-to-date with most current TrekLit except for Enterprise, I plan to read all new Trek novels as they're released. I'd like to read through the Enterprise series.

As far as non-Trek related books, I'd like to branch out more like I started to do last year. I'd like to get through George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series and may start using driving time to and from work (1.5 hours a day) to listen to Clive Cussler's novels. Beyond that I haven't planned out much more.

It should be an interesting year.

Trek - I'm about to start Destiny (finally!), and hope to get through that, into some Typhon Pact stuff by the end of the year, including the Voyager 2nd relaunch stuff and maybe Vanguard.

Non-Trek - Lots on the list, but when the Hugo nominees are announced in March I want to do a read of all the novels nominated for Best Novel before the awards are announced in September.

one or two TOS recent standalone

I'm not sure I'll will be able to read all of them, but let's try.

And of course I'm planning to read a lot of other Scifi or Fantasy novels, but with no precise goals.

I just started reading trek lit last summer, and since then I have consumed quite a large amount of books. Mostly following the DS9 story arc, and all the current novels.

My goal for this year is to read through the earlier Titan books, Cold Equations and Vanguard. That way I can keep up with the current line up of books due to be released this year.

Beyond that, I'm working my way through the pre-relaunch DS9 books, and some of the collected short stories such as Tales from the Dominion War.

the only definite reading goal I have this year is to finally finish reading The Hobbit. I'm generally not one to give up on a book once I've started it, but I've tried reading The Hobbit several times, and have never managed to finish it. For some reason I find it a very hard book to stick with.

And I'd like to re-read the DS9 relaunch as I loved it so much the first time (maybe following on with re-reading Destiny and the Typhon Pact series).

As for non-Trek stuff, I've got a few books to read so far:

~ The Long Earth, by Terry Pratchett & Stephen Baxter

I've been so busy since October that I've only finished two novels since. So my reading goal is actually just "get back into it" for now.

As usual, a lot of my "free" reading is going to involve manuscripts for upcoming Tor projects. Today I'm going to skim a hard-sf anthology so I can write the jacket copy for it, and I'm expecting the first in a series of Deadlands novels, based on the "weird western" role-playing game, by the end of the month . . ..

I've already started making a small amount of progress on my goals. Right now reading a Dresden Files (Dead Beat), Kate Daniels (Magic Strikes), and pre-2001 Trek novel (Dark Mirror).
