To be honest working on the assumption that it's someone who hasn't been mooted in the press then the list of suspects should be very small by now... I don't think it'll be Capaldi, but I do think he'd make an interesting Doctor. I do love the idea that he'd be the death knell for the show though much like casting a 26 year old would be, or a gruff Northerner, or probably going further back casting, McCoy, Baker, Davison, Baker, aw heck probably all of them. The show will end someday, but it won't end because of the actor because they can just be replaced.
Hmm... Just heard a name that I might actually be tempted to put a (small) bet on if I was a betting man. Though probably the realistic time for them to get the part would have been instead of Matt Smith.
That'd be the one. Though like I say, three years ago would have the realistic time for that to happen.
In which case I'd be able to say the same as I said aboutSmith: Never heard of him. (Well, actually I won't be able to say that now, since I just googled him. But I've still never seen him in anything.)
You've never seen The IT Crowd, Family Tree, Bridesmaids or Moone Boy, Gulliver's Travels or This is 40? Anyone got a link for the O'Dowd rumour? I have a DW-loving/Chris-hating friend and would like to ruin his night!
^Try this thread, starting at post 160. The Rachel Weisz nonsense is also in that thread, and is indeed impressively bonkers.
Chris O'Dowd and Idris Elba.... two of the least likely people to take the job. Well, maybe Helen Mirren would be THE least.
Well here'a a name that's just popped up out of nowhere and was never on anyone's radar before. Just like Matt Smith, in fact. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emun_Elliott
People are just picking names out of a hat now aren't they? O'Dowd is exceptionally unlikely given how hot he is right now, getting film and tv work on both sides of the channel. Frankly Capaldi would make more sense. In fact, if it were going to be any member of the IT Crowd it'd be Jen!! Anyway my sources tell me it'll be Robert Webb...or possibly Stephen Fry...or maybe The Rock....
Actually, seeing all the vitriol and hatred his name is generating I think it would be funny if it was O'Dowd.
I read that. Wow. For those who haven't seen it, the logic runs like this. The code name for the casting was "Houdini." Houdini's real name was Erik Weisz. Rachel Weisz shares the same last name as the real Houdini. Therefore, Rachel Weisz was cast as the Doctor. That logic makes my brain hurt!
Nah, I just can't picture it. Oh how about Mark Strickson He is a redhead still. Just because I want to be a smartass.
