Lots of info here, too: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/11/rock-band-3-hands-on-preview/ I love the sound of a lot of this, especially that Harmonix has given consideration to the fact that a lot of people out there have TONS of DLC that often takes forever to sort through. I love the idea of being able to rate songs I don't care for so they won't show up in random playlists (I tell you what's not fun at all, going through a setlist and doing pretty good and then getting slammed on some shitty death metal song at the end).
102 button guitar. Jesus Christ. Right now, they have to sell me on the Pro mode. I'm willing to shell out the money for yet another "real" guitar, but the game has to actually be a good instructional tool for it to be useful in any way. I feel bad for all those Ion Drum Kit people though. Their 300 dollar kits are now useless. Some more details: http://www.plasticaxe.com/2010/06/11/rock-band-3-the-peripherals/ http://www.plasticaxe.com/2010/06/1...-pro-mode-peripherals-and-drum-functionality/ For peeps who like drums, it seems that they've been adding cymbal support into ALL previous RB2 DLC. It looks like none of the old songs will be compatible with Keyboard or Guitar Pro though. http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6265161/rock-band-3-hands-on?tag=topslot;thumb;1 A couple of videos showing the madness that is pro mode.
A picture of the keyboard, the full guitar and the guitar hybrid controllers... http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/11/your-new-rock-band-3-instruments-revealed/ And the official teaser/trailer... Just when I think I'm out, they keep pulling me back in. The keyboard sounds awesome! One of the pics of the guitars showed what looked like a real guitar with a 1/4" input jack... I wonder if they will sell an adapter to allow me to use my guitar with RB3.
Pricing: Keyboard only: $79.99 Game w/ Keyboard: $129.9 MIDI Brain: $39.99 Mad Catz Fender Mustang PRO Guitar (with the buttons): $149.99 Fender Squier Stratocaster PRO Guitar (with the strings): TBA
Nope... The real guitar controller has sensors in the neck so the game knows which string is pressed on what length... But there will be a adaptor for keyboards and electric drums so you can use them with the game... http://www.plasticaxe.com/2010/06/11/rock-band-3-the-peripherals/
Keyboard and Fender 'Squier' guitar or whatever, here I come! I don't know if I'm convinced that it will work well, but HMX has cranked out quality stuff so I'll give them a chance. I've been learning the guitar lately with not much direction beyond Google, I wonder if Rock Band can really become a tool to improve my playing. The clip of Pro Guitar I saw in one of the previews was a little scary... I kind of understood what fret it was tabbing out (though maybe not which string, maybe that's color coded or something), but it was all so close together I have to wonder if I'll be able to effectively read the note charts.
1) I think they were showing a complex solo. Most of the songs wouldn't be that crowded. 2) Unlike the regular plastic guitar, you will have to practice the songs in the trainer just to get a feel of the them. I have pretty good sight-reading skills and my brain can't process the fast stuff quick enough to play it in real time. 3) It looks like each line is a different string and that the numbers is what fret to play. Sort of like a scrolling tab chart. It is actually like a super tab chart because the rhythm is notated in the speed and spacing of the chart and you can play along, making it easier to learn a song. 4) Good luck with the guitar!
There's also different levels of Pro, so you can train yourself up to Expert as you would in the old game.
This weeks PS3 RBN tracks: Couldn't find Green Day:Rock Band in any local store, so i ordered it online...
I'm hoping they show off the real guitar during whatever event is supposed to be planned for RB3 and maybe actually show off some in context Pro mode gameplay.
I'm guessing you'll have to get a new drum set since the RB2 cymbals aren't actually separate buttons.
If you have the wireless RB2 drums you can buy an upgrade kit. Which sucks for me since I have the RB1 set.
Same here, though I've been thinking of getting the RB2 set for a while because they're so much quieter.

Yeah, still no look at the real guitar though. I`d like to see how it works with the game. Footage of the official HMX event. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGYPHuXsp_Y&feature=channel
I was reading the IGN preview and it looks like the guitar communicates with the game using MIDI. So I can get a MIDI adapter for my guitar and that could work for in-game.
