If they also get Andrew J. Robinson, Marc Alaimo and Casey Biggs in full costume, I'd might actually consider going. :D

All 3 of them are top guys, although I'm not sure Marc does much in the way of appearances anymore. He's only down for one Creation event in the US for the rest of this year. I think he pretty much retired from acting at the end of DS9 and keeps a low profile apart from a small bit of voice work. I met him about 8 or 9 years ago when he was with Casey and Jeff Combs. The three of them together were brilliant.

Would pay good money for a photoshoot with Andy Robinson in full Garak makeup. Best character in the history of Trek.

This thread's so much better when you put Shamasters staff on your ignore list.

I hope you're not referring to me. You're bringing a rumour from another forum onto here bear, I already explained myself there. I am simply an ATTENDEE. I go to 3/4 events per year ran by the company. I feel like you're getting personal and victimising me because I'm optimistic that this event will go smoothly.

I hope this won't turn into a personal dispute as the thread has been going well in the last couple of weeks. One quick note: it's best not to say who's on your ignore list especially if those posters are posting in the same thread. It's generally incendiary. Now, Admiral Bear's remark was general enough but I'd rather not see such statements regardless because they obviously lead to negative reactions in others as this thread shows. Cakemonster, I'd advise you to assume that you weren't among those Admiral Bear had in mind.

Seriously? You're afraid to tell your friends your interest/where you're spending the weekend? Maybe you should get some new friends.

Axel, you need to understand the general level of derision you get from the majority of people in the UK when you say you like Star Trek. You might as well walk down the street carrying a sandwhich board with "I have Leprosy" written on it.

Considering that Trek is rarely off TV in the UK, I've always felt that there is a genuine affection for Trek over here. It pops up as a regular pop culture reference in the media and Bill Shatner's appearance on one of the BBC's main comedy programmes last week was very warmly received. While everyone knows the perception of Trekkies, the UK has a long record of affection for geeks/nerds/eccentrics, and if they see Trek fans as such, I don't think it's in a derisive sense! Certainly not the 'leprosy' tag AB gives us.

While you get very few if any comments from watching Star Trek on TV (during the 90's, BBC2's 6pm Wed showing of TNG was the channel's highest watched programme every week), the comments start if you say you go to conventions and or like to dress up.

On a semi serious note, while I realise we're not all the same in terms of mentally firing on all thrusters, some of the people I've seen at UK Trek cons have needed sectioning under the mental health act. It's these type of Trek fans, plus the ones that dress up as Klingons, Borg et al, that give the more normal fans a bad rap.

At Creation events in the past, I've been left wondering just how many of the people there realise that Star Trek isn't actually real.

I'm certain Star Trek fans are much less common in Sweden and a lot of the genera people have that "geek" thought of it, but who gives a shit? Laugh at them for their ignorance. If you have friends that are that dumb or narrow-minded, just get new ones or grow some balls. Better yet, tell them to go to the devil.

Question for you, Admiral Bear: Are you a member of the official William Shatner forum?

I think I might've signed up there years ago, but it's not a forum or site I've been to for a very long time. Having seen him at close quarters, Shatner's not someone I care for very much.

That's unfair. Leprosy is a disease, people understand this and, to a degree, allow for it. Being a StarTrek fan is far less acceptable.

I see. Reason I asked is because when Shatner was announced for LFCC 2010 there was a member there who tried to cool all the excitement down, warning us about Showmasters lying about guests being signed for their events etc.

We all know that's something they do. It's been proven beyond all reasonable doubt at least four times, and strongly suspected on many, many more occasions. I know enough about Joiner not to believe anything he says unless you can verify it independently.

It continues to be disturbing just how many of the "big" guests at every single one of Joiner's events drop like flies the week before the event takes place. This has been happening for years. Just look at Klepto coming up this weekend. Greatest Show in the Galaxy had about 86 guests a few weeks ago, and as far as I know, at least all the big guests, Trek, Torchwood, Doctor Who, Christopher Lambert etc turned up. Rather puts Shamasters to shame.

Nope, Daphne Ashbrook pulled out (and the news broke third hand), ruining a perfect Doctor Who TVM group photoshoot, but at least GS were prepared to offer a full refund. Unlike this weekend where a Five Doctors photo just becomes 4 Doctors if one doesn't make it.

Cancellations always happen. The amount of people who are disappointed that their favourite actors find jobs acting where they can surprises me.

However, there's an amended development which you might like to add to your cause of greivinces.

If a guest is moved from one event to another its not a cancellation

'Photoshoot tickets will still be valid for LFCC (you don't need to swap them, simply use the CMK tickets at LFCC). If you are not attending LFCC and would like a refund please return the tickets to (edited) or alternatively bring them to the organisers booth at Collectormania'

Now the thing is Collectomania is a free show (mainly because it used to be in a shopping centre, couldn't police the crowds!) whereas the later is not. So that means if you had paid for a photo ticket you could use at a free event, due to the organisers choice to move them to the next event (rather than next free event) you now have to pay more to use the same ticket at the 2nd event. Or if you you have to pay postage if you can't decide by the time the first event on!

So I dunno, sounds slightly dodgy to me. You are inconvienced, but you have to pay to resolve it.

Anyway, I am paying a flying visit to Collectomania this weekend. I wasn't (got another event in London on the Sunday) but trainfare wise not much more to sidestep to Milton Keynes for a few hours first. Which is odd considering the geography!
