Michael Fassbender. it would be fantastic, given his performance in Prometheus. would be so cool to see in a future nutrek film. if they could work it into the next one in some crazy ass way I would shit. I don't care how stupid it sounds I would be so into it. alternate timelines are so fruitful for my imagination.

They need to give the role to a real android.

I'd cast a tall sexy woman in the role and have her be a love interest for nuLaForge.

Honestly, I like this idea - use an expressive robot with fake flesh like the Japanese are building, and let an actor work through it using a motion mapping suit. Basically, an advanced puppet. It solves several problems that Spiner had - aging being the biggest.

Alan Tudyk is the only guy out there, that I can think of, with anywhere near the right demeanor & skill to capture the essence of Data as we know him. Remember, Data is a comical character, & Dule Hill would be the perfect Laforge to match him with

Me, I like the idea of a female Data. The first name that comes to mind is Jasika Nicole of Fringe. Just give her some neato contact lenses and voila! She's a marvelous actress!

I think Tom Hiddleston would be an excellent Data.

I can already see the complaints about nuData now....

"His skin is too gold! Data's skin was never gold! OMG did they even WATCH Next Gen?!?"

    "He's too emotional!"

Not so sure about Hiddelston as Data but definitely wouldn't mind seeing him appear in a future ST movie. Same goes for actor John Noble.

You mean the voice actor for Shepard or the Dutch model that he's modeled after?

Data: This is my favorite store on the Enterprise.

There's something in Mr. Fassbender that gives me the creeps (he reminds me of Ryan Gosling in Drive) something in their eyes, their faces that makes them appear psychopaths. On the contrary, Data was a naive android who couldn't behave badly nor had negative thoughts or attitudes, he was noble. So my answer is no, this Fassbender actor could not play Data in Star Trek because he's contrary to the spirit of Data.

I'd rather have a fully CGI young Brent Spiner like in Tron Legacy.

Alan Tudyk is a brilliant choice though. His sense of humor even seems a little Brent Spiner to me.

lol. hes an actor. he acts. he simply acted like that in Prometheus. that was the point. the fact that he gave you this feeling says a lot about his ability. he could just as easily play the opposite.

Data should have been recast in Nemesis IMO.

Tudyk did a good job as Sonny in I, Robot. It's a cgi movement & vocal performance only, but he was quite effective.

You know, the uncanny valley-ness that would cause would actually work and make him seem less like a human in android makeup.
