Here in Australia, any kind of non-Anglo Saxon sounding name was frowned upon entertainment business until the past maybe 5-10 years. People with exotic surnames were told to use their white-sounding middle names as their surnames or not get work. Then the thinking changed, and it became "better" to have something exotic sounding to try to stand out.
