I read in some preview (I can't remember which one) that most of the missions will be more free-form this time and will allow the player to choose how to approach them. That being said, the 5 or 6 heists that are the focus of the story will probably be very scripted because that's just the nature of epic heist missions. Hopefully they'll find a good balance.

All you had to do was keep a few metres right of the train, CJ! :p

Oddly I don't usually have a problem with the missions people hate but will find other ones more difficult than most people.

This game looks amazing. Is it just my imagination or does it look like it's using the facial animation used in L.A Noire?

Three new trailers for each of the characters:

To coincide with the new trailers, new previews have been shown to the press, with a list of the newly-announced features here.

The heist mechanic sounds amazing. I was expecting something similar to the casino heist in San Andreas, with several missions of set-up and one big mission being the actual heist. But from the previews it appears to be much more open-ended in GTA5. You actually plan the heist on a whiteboard, you're given a list of requirements (weapons, vehicles, disguises, etc) that you acquire as you see fit prior to the heist, you hire accomplices (with more skilled accomplices costing more), and each heist has a stealth option. The better your preparation, the smoother the heist will be, but if you spend too much money on preparation then you might not break even on the venture. What's more, your accomplices have skill levels that can level up if they take part in a successful heist with you, but if they die because of your poor preparation then you'll have to hire some rookie next time.

It sounds like a game made up of several Mass Effect 2 Suicide Mission-like sequences, but with the added bonus of sports cars and jet fighters. I really hope they pull it off.

Trailer looks great, the heist stuff sounds fantastic... Here's hoping they pull it off, and then promptly announce another Red Dead Redemption game coming soon to the next-gen consoles :)

I think I'll play through the GTA4 expansions. I picked them both up, got started on the motorcycle one, but didn't get very far before I got distracted with other stuff.

I haven't played a GTA game since Vice City, but this looks good. The characters look like they're gonna be a lot of fun.

Not my usual slang but I gotta say that looks sick. Probably the one series I would consider taking time off to play on release day.

I have to imagine that even if it isn't coming straight away to it, that it would eventually, because they'd be stupid not to considering how popular it would be. Considering it's coming out near the end of these consoles' life cycles, they'd need to be working on something that could quickly be ported to the XBone and PS4.

Everything looks great... except the driving. GTA IV's driving needed some work, but I liked that cars in that game had weight and momentum and required some skill to master. The driving in the trailer looked much more arcadey, I fear that instead of tightening up and improving on GTA IV's handling they've abandoned it in favour of something simpler.

Here's hoping for more Phil Collins concerts!

I replayed GTA4 a few months ago and tried to simulate GTA5's multiple protagonists by cutting between the main game and the two episodes in the correct mission order. Telling three concurrent stories was a cool experiment, and it mostly works, but it does mess with the pacing of the three stories. I was forced to rush certain parts of Niko's story, and there's long gaps in Johnny and Luis' stories. Since GTA5 is being created as a single experience, hopefully they perfect the formula.
