In a short clip, Carol Marcus introduces herself to James T. Kirk. There are slight spoilers below the cut. In the clip, Marcus introduces herself as Science Officer Wallace, and Spock is not happy about the addition of another Science Officer.

It sounded like her accent was British, but in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Carol Marcus had an American accent.

Why does Carol Marcus introduce herself as Carol Wallace?

Maybe it is her mothers maiden name, and she is estranged from her father? Maybe she is already married? :)

Another science officer being redundant? So it's alright for Uhura to be one of three communication officers on the bridge, but it's unreasonable for there to be more than one science officer? Jerk.

Maybe she is not Carol Marcus but Dr. Wallace from "The Deadly Years."

It's fascinating how much a Romulan time traveler destroying a single Federation ship changes everything.

A brown eyed Vulcan and a green eyed monster go into a Rigellian bar......

Well, science officer Wallace was assigned by Admiral Marcus, if that means anything.

Time-travel can be very tricky. Just remember what happened to Captain Braxton.

....its how she gets on board the ship....to explain fully would give away too much of the plot

    Actor != character.

Bibi Besch was Austrian, yet Carol Marcus had an American accent. Hugh Laurie is British, yet House is an American.

Couldn't have been too hard, could it?

But then again Abrams & Co didn't bother with making... that other guy, where it would actually have been essential... non-British.

Besch always sounded "off" to me. Laurie's American accent is rubbish. He's the Dick Van Dyke of American accents.

    That was a great clip.

Pine and Quinto portray Kirk and Spock, with banter and chemistry so well. That part where Kirk quips "Yet the more the merrier." Perfect shatner-esque delivery and smirk.

Pine does it well yet still has his own take on the character.

Classic trek right there in that little scene.

No good reason to do it.

    None at all.

This is a different version of Star Trek, like it or don't.
