Has any newer information ever come to light on what happened to the original Lazarus actor? That's quite a bender you've been on if you really just forget to go and be the star in a major weekly network tv show. Is there any record of what became of the complaint made to the Actors Guild?

That was John Drew Barrymore, a member of the famous Barrymore acting family, and father of Drew Barrymore. He died a few years ago.

After his Star Trek goofup, the Screen Actors Guild suspended him for six months, and he was unable to find similar work. The details are in Solow & Justman's Inside Star Trek: The Real Story. He survived it all, but I don't recall him ever being that popular in those days.

Just based on the Barrymore name, I long assumed he was a grand old man of the acting profession, and had skipped out on Star Trek for fear that sci-fi would hurt his classy reputation. Then one day I checked his wiki page and learned that that was the furthest thing from the truth.

The times Lazarus falls off cliffs, I sometimes think he must be part-lemming.

No one so far has mentioned "The Omega Glory," my nominee for worst ever. An idiotic mess of William Windom with trademark quivering face, laughable plot and mindless flag-waving. As Kirk explained it all for you at the end, "E plagnestum" ... or something.

No way The Omega Glory is even in the same ballpark.

Perhaps he's being confused with Morgan Woodward (who also appeared as Van Gelder in "Dagger of the Mind")?

    And it's "E Pleb Neesta." :)

I followed The Alternative Factor just fine.

But then, I also followed City on the Edge of Forever just fine too, and THAT was a lost mess.....

Stupidest episode ever made. Alternative Factor was a masterpiece of biblical proportions compared to seeing William Shatner moon over Joan Collins.

I'm with you. Once they were done it was completely confusing. I'm not even sure they knew which Lazarus was which at times.

Sounds like Harlan Ellison is visiting the board.

Nah, Harlan would never be so circumspect.

The City on the Edge of Forever is one of my favorite episodes. I'm curious, did Mr. Ellison not like it?

Ellison wrote the original script, and (very vocally) hated the alterations that were made to the screenplay. His version had drug dealers on the Enterprise....

Thanks, for the info. I don't think I would have liked that version.

If you are so inclined and since it is your favorite episode; you should pick-up the book. It's pretty interesting and has several versions of the story included. Here is the Amazon link:
