The water pipes are goofy. I don't know if that's meant to be engineering. I don't think it is, because it doesn't look at all like the Kelvin's engineering section. I think there's some ambiguity surrounding where those pipes are, except that they are somewhere in the bowels of the ship. There is another segment that is actually in engineering. I don't remember exactly what it looked like. There were some antimatter reactors.

It helps a little, thanks. Story and characterization are paramount anyway. I won't quibble if the movie is still Trek at its core.

Another review by Garth from Dark Horizons. (some spoilers but nothing too big )
It's probably the most critical review I've read so far, but still ...:

That's a tremendously encouraging review - particularly Franklin's echoing the observation of an earlier reviewer that the movie really goes beyond "revitalizing Star Trek" to injecting some new life into the whole space opera genre.

Perhaps people who've seen the movie can, without giving any spoilers, recommend OS episodes the movie made you think of while you viewed it?

Spider Man 2? It was ok I guess, but nothing stellar imo.

Then again, I don't think TDK was all it was cracked up to be either.

I loved TDK. Spidey 2, not so much. I didn't like any of the Spider-Man films, really.

maybe the menagerie. the tension between the characters made me think of that one, as well as pike, split loyalties, deception, moral message.

Don't get me wrong - I didn't dislike it. It was ok. But personally I was more impressed by Iron Man and, dare I say it, The Incredible Hulk than by TDK.

there are spoilers in the review and for some reason his spoiler code dosnt work.

i still think the scene with the person in the pipes is delta vega..

and yeah i would rather not enterprise engineering look like that there were pipes and valve covers in tos engineering..

    no truth in beauty

I was a little disturbed by the Garth Franklin review. A few select quotes:

And I do not like the news of a certain song and product placement being in the film at all...

Don't get me wrong - it is a strongly positive review overall. It's just there are a few things that I regard as quite important which seem to be lacking in this film.

well the first two comments really would depend on which episode of tos are we talking about.

Spock and Sarek also had something of a rather petty rivalry over a certain music competition that was cut from 'And The Children Shall Lead' IIRC.

Still, some of that feels a bit worrisome.

His narration is one of the best parts of the trailers.

people, isn't this supposed to be the no-spoiler thread?! I mean, come on, I've been assiduously avoiding the-thread-that-shall-not-be-mentioned as well as ALL spoilers in the RW (except that one BIG one I saw in an inadvertent drunken stupor last week). please, please do not speak of such things in here. go to the other one.

Oh, I should have been more clear: I didn't mean Ben Cross was worrisome, I meant the other comments.

i am asking the mods just how they feel about the review.
overall i dont know how much real spoilers it has.
so much of it is stated in general terms .
we know from the voice over of the trailer we are getting sarek asking spock about his path in life.
we know there are space battles from the trailers.

If you're referring to those few select quotes from donners post then no I don't see a problem. Nothing spoiled there, really. I consider spoilers to be key plot points given away. Those are pretty general snippets. We don't learn anything new about the plot.
