Talk about a small world...I live in Kent UK at the moment. Hopefully we will one day have a Trek convention there.

That will be sexist and since trek is suppose to represent the future that would never happen. However every great fantasy/sci-fi series needs a female to ride with the guys. Hermione, Ewoyn, Princess Leia just to name a few.

Even dragon ball z which is a very masculine show had a lead female character that was very feminine. It will just suck if trek was all about kirk/bones/spock and if every female character are just there to be killed off.

a legitimate reason for uhura’s death will be that she is the only one wearing red.

And the Charlie X scene where Spock can be ambiguous right back.

Oh I quite agree. There was already a testosterone imbalance in ST:XI, which this video addresses:

Those are so adorable. I saw them when they first came out, and I just think it's great. You're better than me, then, because I don't have them. I was thinking about it, though... :)

EDIT: And now I think I still am thinking about it. ;)

Uhura is an extremely smart and attractive woman (both versions) so why wouldn't Spock be attracted? Liking Human women is in his genes. :vulcan:

By then clearly it will have been logical for Spock to have moved on to a younger woman?

That's not what the original Spock would have done, also don't forget Spock was betrothed. In the original series if Uhura made a pass at him Spock would let her down easily, but he would let her down. Spock grew and developed as he grew older and became less reluctant to show his feelings, but I think it all happened too quickly in this movie, not that I object to the couple, it just does not seem in character for Spock, that's all.

But this is the younger, less jaded Spock. He's fresher and hotter. And he's not yet infatuated with Kirk so he has room for the beautiful Uhura.

Liked the idea, it showed the writers were paying attention to TOS. But I don't think the execution was good. From the posting demand to Uhura running away from her station to comfort Spock.

I am disinclined to get all swoony-shippy about these things, though I liked the relationship as presented just fine. Bottom line, however, is that anything that gives Zoe Saldana more screen time is A-OK by me. :techman:

46 years ago today, Uhura was shamelessly flirting with Spock in "Mantrap." Tell me about the moons on your world, etc.

About time they finally got together! :)

I didn't expect it, but its a good addition to the story, especially for Spock, and I guess it's good on balance for Uhura, too, although I'd prefer they'd have improved her character without resorting to the obvious route of hooking her up with one of the guys.

Yes, Quinto's spock is more het than Nimoy's. ;)

More het, nah, NuSpock is even slashier with nuKirk than TOS Spock/Kirk. (Oh, wait, that was a typo...huh? You meant HOT, not hetero :alienblush: ;))

I completely agree, he is the slashiest character ever!
