This is a good video of the Enterprise-E escape pods from FC.

The pods on voyager are covered up again with the hatches after they've been used, but I suppose those hatches can't be too strong. Just means getting out the drill again :P

There's a good shot of the lifeboat hatches on Voyager opening in year of Hell...

Pretty nice destruction there! In terms of what else to put in, I can only recommend sub-levels of beams and hull layers and such. Decking would have sub-textures of isogrids and reinforcing bars and conduits. One thing I try to tell modelers and VFX people is that not everything would be burnt black; not everything breaks down into carbon and soot and whatnot. Alloys melt but they don't all turn black. Play with some other metallic and oxide shades. But most importantly, have fun with it.

Maybe add some holes/damage in the actual decks as well? Maybe also cut along the grid lines and have some of the hull panels along the edge of the damaged area "popped up" to look like they were pushed out by explosive pressure from inside the ship?

Yeah that sounds like it'll be a good idea. Work on this project has been put aside for a little while; mainly because if I go at something for too long I get bored and start to stop caring about it, so I've started a scratchbuild large scale red dwarf model. Pics will be in their own thread when I've made some progress :D

Amazing work, and not to cheapen what you are doing here, but I thought they went WAAAAAY over the top with the damage in the actual ep. still looking forward to the finished model.

With some lighting and clear, colored plastic, maybe you could simulate some force fields sealing off some sections of the hull

That might be an idea, I could definitely do that for the bridge

There is a saying (attributed to different people) that says great art is never finished, only abandoned. I am glad you didn't abandon this great piece of art. :techman:

I'm afraid they did. @NCC-1701-B hasn't posted here for almost three years. I'm closing this now.
