A greally great episode that doesn't get talked about much.

Hear, hear. And I'm noticing this new trend where, in the second half of an episode, the channel will have a commercial break, show 3 minutes of the episode, and then cut BACK to the commercial break. DVR doesn't lie! Talk about taking people out of the show.

    Anyway, back on topic:
"Where Silence has Lease," thanks to the TNG boards.

Yeah, there's magic in watching a broadcast episode of TOS, but the cuts and edits are just too much.

Anyway, "The Squire of Gothos" (TOS)

The gratuitous cuts and edits to the current crop of TOS episodes would be a little more tolerable were they not so sloppy and erratic, but that ship's long since sailed. I don't mind watching the cable edits of the series because TOS is still TOS whether the original episode remains fully intact or not, but discs, Netflix and other online sources are the true refuge for the fan who wants his Trek the way Gene and the producers originally intended.

Without 17 minutes of cereal and pizza ads and the end credits shrunken down into the lower corner of the screen so another show's promo can be aired over top of them.

It reminds me of the Andy Griffith episodes that get cut to pieces and back. Some of the best stuff is in the edits, and you only see them on Netflix, or the DVDs. In fact, the DVDs offer commercials that were shown during the series run. I wish TOS DVDs offered the same. That would have been sweet!

Where I come from, cutting and editing an original Andy Griffith episode is akin to a serious crime. Folks in these parts take their Andy very seriously, and I can't blame them. ;)

    Seriously

    First time I've seen it

Had such a rep it wasn't as bad as I expected

Need a Blu Ray release of this one a la Best of Both Worlds with writer actor and director commentary
