Gemma Atkinson Joins C&C: Red Alert 3

Note to EA: You're supposed to cast people who can act but deliberately choose to do so badly in Red Alert games!

 

That article is wrong - she's playing a wooden table that you place the maps on.

 

^She'd be useless at playing such a table. Tables need to be flat.

Exactly! She was hired for her assets of which acting is not one.

Act, she cannot.

Being all sexy and stuff? This, she excels at. Oh, yes.

 

Well it's lucky the videos in C&C games aren't exactly renowned for strong acting.

 

Then I see no problem - Gemma will fit in nicely, and damn well sex up the place! Or whatever.

 

^That was my point, though. The people cast in Red Alert games especially (and C&C3) can act, but it's part of the fun to do so badly. There's a bit of discussion about it on the DVD that came with the First Decade pack.

I don't think most Lost or Battlestar Galactica fans would suggest that the cast of C&C3 can't act.

 

How do you know she's not intentionally horrible, I mean would you even bother trying to stretch yourself on Hollyoaks?

 

^No chance. Hollyoaks is for people who get turned away by The Bill.

 

I wasn't exactly being serious with that. But then again, is there much different, beyond the humour of the in-joke, between intentionally bad, and just bad? And surely, they intentionally cast her because she is bad?

 

I was never under the impression that Kari Wührer could act.

 

Oh, now that's mean...

 

They intentionally cast her because of the huge rack, I imagine.

It doesn't work if you know the actors aren't just messing around.

 

Ah, but it should if you know the producers were. Plus, she might surprise you, and act like she's acting badly...

 

I just have more faith in guys like Ray Wise than that. Wise is one of the more criminally underrated actors in the business.

 

EA.com have now added wallpapers featuring Atkinson proving that she was cast as a serious actress. Or not.

 

This game just gets better and better.

RA3 is certainly my most anticipated RTS behind Starcraft II. It's good to see the interesting side of C&C again.
