At Trek Trax Atlanta this past weekend, Project: Potemkin undertook the challenge of creating a short fan film. In addition to the Potemkin cast and crew, cast and crew members from Starship Reliant, Starship Valkyrie, Starship Farragut and even Brian Holloway of Phase 2 participated in the production. Here is the convention cut of that film: http://youtu.be/200p84H2aUo Full credits as follows: Starring Bill Mackenzie..............Lt. The sound needs tweaking, a couple of lines need ADR, incidental music will be added, a few corrections made to the credits. Hope you enjoy!
Okay, I admit I'm not up on all my fan films. Who in the cast is from what production? Written, filmed and edited in 24 hours. Not bad. Sort of reminds me of those 48 hour film festivals. Sir Rhosis
I should've noted that in the original post. From Reliant: Darren Hann, Tara Murphy, Joann Pelley. From Valkyrie: Jerry Stanford, Jacob Stanford, Dean Rogers, Toby Curfman, Michael Liebmann From Farragut: Dean Rogers From Phase 2: Brian Holloway From Potemkin: Bill Mackenzie, Doug Harper, Sara Mackenzie, Renda Carr, Tim Carr From TrekTrax Atlanta: Eric L. Watts, Christopher Jones, Leila M. McMichael, Wilford Sims
The actual production time (including filming) was 12 hours. Spent a couple of hours hanging out, having dinner/lunch/breakfast, and doing panels.
I'm going to assume that you'll run this through a sound filter ()or whatever) to bring up the dialog. And remove the timer? Sorry to nitpick. Sir Rhosis
We're probably going to sit down with the actors whose lines need dubbing and rerecord them. The timer on the end is where we simply used a test footage for the closing shot. I regret screwing up New Toronto more with mis-sizing it in the opening.
Putting yourselves under the gun to turn around a project so quickly was a great idea on a number of levels. I'll bet it will really help you speed up your post-production times in the future. I'm sure it also gives you a fresh appreciation of just how skilled professional operations are that can turn out weekly 60 minute episodes!
Very much so. And we realize how important that the sound that we do in post at our leisure is so important. We need to work harder at making sure that the sound we record while we shoot is as best as we can possibly get it on the set or location. Because it was clear while I sat there until 1am Saturday night that we needed ADR that we didn't have time to record. A well-placed boom mike at the bar would've solved our problems. Back to your point, yes, I'm amazed out how television produces a 42-48 min production in less than a week!
