You clearly haven't seen the new Battlestar Galactica. Trek couldn't be more different in tone.

This is Star Trek, just as the classic movies were, just as The Next Generation, Voyager, Deep Space Nine and even Enterprise were. All different spins on the same universe. What ever happened to IDIC? You know, that thing Gene Roddenberry came up with*

Looks like Trek to me. Do you want Star Trek: The Motionless Picture all over again?

I felt excitement and awe when watching the original series back in the 70s as a kid. This re-booted Star Trek has me feeling that way once more.

And it's your absolute right. By all means, don't go see a movie if it doesn't appeal to you...

... BUT of course, whatever you may say about the movie after you've informed us that you don't even plan to see it is completely devoid of interest.

Indisputable proof that Star Trek Into Darkness is True Trek:

I think it's hard to take any defense of JJ Trek seriously when your avatar is the enterprise "splishing" into the water like this is something to celebrate.

Not as difficult as it is to take criticism of current Trek laced with an overly impressed sense of superiority simply by virtue of holding a critical view.

Then you and I clearly enjoy Star Trek for different reasons.

"Defense"? We enjoy it. We enjoy it. There's no need to defend anything.

    Let's celebrate. :techman:

I still don't think the villain is going to be Khan, but he looks truly badass!

And hell it isn't even that new of a concept for Trek: from TNG through Voyager we've had starships crashing or hardlanding on planets a plenty. Even TOS had the Enterprise near crashing into the Earth at least once. JJ's take on the ideal just looks a lot, lot better--owing to new SFX techniques. And this time it looks more real, more "painful" to watch.

Watching the shots of the crash in the trailers makes me think (unlike the first movie and the TNG movies) this time around they get that the Enterprise is a character too and we need to feel happy when she wins and sad/mad when she's hurt and losing.

Would someone please explain to me what "real" Star Trek looks like?

Real Trek is a little tweeting bird chirping in a meadow. Real Trek is a wreath of pretty flowers which smell bad.

There is something I just noticed about the Into Darkness meeting...

Kirk is sitting between two admirals like a boss :techman:

Gene sought out lots of "new underwear"... plenty of scantily clad women in the TOS:

No doubt. The assertion that Star Trek hasn't used sexy, scantily clad ladies to sell their brand is beyond absurd.

You are in serious, serious denial if you believe otherwise.
