I love TOS, own the full DVD original and BR Remastered and still end up watching it randomly on TV on the weekends too anyway.

I started with TNG. But now I have come to realise that TOS is the best of the shows. It's more ...fun, and less preachy. And TOS didn't set out to make a 'Star Trek' show, but just good sci fi, like the Twilight Zone. It didn't get bogged down in canon.

I have all 6 shows including TAS, on DVD. And all the movies. But I acknowledge a huge debt of gratitude to TOS. Without it, the others would not exist. My age? 30. I started watching Trek around '94 when I was 12

Yes. Even Spock's Brain is funny. Maybe unintentionally so, but it's part of the charm. Hell, I even get a laugh out of Melvin Belli in a muu muu in 'And The Children Shall Lead'.

Yeah. It's stupid but in a good way. Not like "And the Children Shall Lead", "The Omega Glory" or "The Way to Eden".

TOS is best. All others were just trying to copy and recapture the magic that is The Original Series.

Well TNG made it's own thing in time but at first it did seem to try to recapture lost glory. DS9 was the most different for me. It didn't feel like it was doing more of the same, contrary to TNG, VOY and ENT.

^The first couple seasons of DS9 had a lot of "planet of the week" episodes that could just have easily been done on TNG. But it got better.

TOS is Star Trek. Everything else is just spin-offs.

Another fan above a certain age here. I like TOS, but I don't love it. I love TNG and DS9.

Yeah. Let's say in the first season in particular, they didn't seem to know where they were going with this. To be honest, I missed most of the second season the first time around, in part because of this, and in part because of the changing time slot on ABC.

    Understatement.

I'm honestly curious if the OP started this topic not knowing whether it would become another "TOS IS THE BEST THING EVAR" circle-jerk, since that's kind of clearly the only thing it was capable of becoming.

I'm sure you'd have no issue if it had turned into a "TNG/DS9 ARE THE BEST THING EVAR" circle-jerk.

Why can't we all agree that Trek is the best thing ever and have a drink ?
