Doubt that Paramount will see any point to this expense. I think the Trekweb people underestimate what would be required for a film-quality creation of that end sequence with all the rock people.

Star Trek The Motion Picture and Richard Donner's version of Superman II were due to internet campaigns?

The nope. Neither were due to internet campaigns.

The Donner cut was due to fan support of it, but not a campaign. Also Donner himself always wanted to get his version out and it was REALLY just a marketing ploy to promote Superman Returns.

I interviewed Shatner for IGN back when the STV CE DVD came out, and it sounded as if that ship (a director's cut) had already sailed. Paramount isn't interested at all and won't pony up with the money for it in any way. Ever.

I find it hard to believe that improving the special effects and adding a cgi rockmen sequence to the ending would some how improve Star Trek V. This film is not worthy of the effort. I don't think anything could improve it, I wish it had never been made.

I think improved effects would certainly improve the film, but they still wouldn't solve the film's fundamental script problems, which would be evident in any version of it. Still, if I had the option, I would prefer a Blu-Ray with new effects over the rather crappy effects work of the original.

Fortunately, there are plenty of people who like the movie and are glad it was made. I'm not a big fan of Nemesis, but there are a good number of fans that enjoyed the movie. I wouldn't wish the movie hadn't been made, because all I have to do is not watch it. I don't have to watch it, and the people who enjoy the movie get to continue enjoying it. Anything else is a waste of time and effort.

    Sarek of Vulcan,

I agree with what you said. People are welcome to praise or criticize Star Trek V (or anything) if they want to. Both are a waste of time. The forums are a waste of time too, but a guilty pleasure and entertaining at times as well.

I did as you said, I watched Star Trek V once when it was released in the Summer of 1989 and have never watched it again.

It is not true. Truth is for philosophy classes. There are opinions & facts ONLY surrounding this subject.
The FACTS are, that some like the movie, and would enjoy it a great deal more should it be 'revised', while others would not like or enjoy it regardless due to their innate dislike of the movie for what they consider to be irredeemable elements or lack of complex writing (or both).

I have fun with it, my own self.:techman:

There's a lot of nice moments in this film, though surrounded by a lot of bad ones. I would fully support a restoration/completion of this film to something with a little more oomph.

We just finished watching it this minute, actually, and it was very entertaining.
Personally, I went to the bathroom for the Spock's Thrustie Bootie sequences, but overall, we had fun.:techman:

If you mentally edit out all the obviously last-minute studio demanded humor rewrites, it's a far better movie than it's given credit for.

That added a lot to the discussion, Dennis! Wow.

The brilliance, the sophisticated wording....it's all rather much for me.
