YES Sounds brilliant. I've only rented a movie on XBL once, and it was in HD and took forever to download. I'm a Netflix subscriber so getting access to their Watch Now service through XBL will be awesome. When are we getting it? And when does the new Xbox firmware come out?
That is fan-fucking-tastic!! I was recently contemplating the purchase of the box Netflix sells, but just couldn't justify it. Now I don't have to! Also, I saw a mention of a party chat feature coming with the update. Does this mean we can finally have a voice chat between more than just two people (without having to be inside of a game like Uno or Call of Duty 4 first)?
Mind you, this is only a guess, but I think it applies only where someone can get a NetFlix account. If you can in Canada, well, then maybe!
Considering how much Microsoft mentioned the exclusivity of their deal with Netflix, I very much doubt the service will be coming to the PS3 anytime soon. As a Netflix subscriber, I might use this once in awhile but I don't see the utility until the selection improves significantly and they get HD versions of movies and shows (which may or may not work at all considering the bandwidth required for HD files).
The PS3 is getting its own video download service, but so far all they've got signed up is Sony themselves.
I thought it was neat until I read this at the link: As someone who doesn't play online games (and thus doesn't buy that service), I'm not interested in paying 5 bucks a month extra to watch Netflix movies instantly over my X-Box. In a little over a year's time, I would have paid for a Roku box that I can use forever at no additional charges...but X-Box would cut me off as soon as I stopped paying for that Gold membership.
Considering I just acquired a Xbox 360 yesterday, and I've had a Netflix account for years, this is wonderful news.
Having to be a XBL Gold member does suck, but I guess Microsoft wants their chunk of the money pie as well. If this was available to Silver members, they'd get absolutely nothing.
I was quite pleased when I saw this at the press conference. We've had Netflix for a long time, so just having the ability to watch on the tv rather than the computer will be nice. Even better, your friends can watch the same thing with you at the same time on their 360. Cool.
