Not a photoshop. This is A Final Unity running on my motorola triumph via Dosbox for Android. aDOSBox ver 0.2.5 Loading takes a minute and it runs like its on a 386 but it works, including cut scenes. I made an .iso image of the cd, copied to the micro sd card and voila! I got star wars rebel assault to work too in the same way.
Just Amazing.....you are carrying about in your pocket what i had to put into the boot of my car to bring home, back in 1995, when i bought a 386 SX PC to play ST 25 anniversary.
Lol... I already theorized about this several months ago and knew about Dosbox for Android. I just never got around to do it on my phone. Congrats. At least now we can have QUALITY games that suck the battery.
good question! I actually have not tried that yet. for the interplay titles: It's turned off in the screen caps but there is a virtual joypad on screen with 4 fire buttons and left right up down. I use that, although to tab key from the screen to the bridge you have to bring up the android keyboard for a second. Also, have to minimize the game, to open a scanned image of the star maps when warping to a new mission. The speech audio is kinda popping in JR but of the three games 25th is almost flawless. I expect these to improve on the next release of aDosbox
OP, did you have to tweak any settings in dosbox.conf or elsewhere to get it to play Final Unity smoothly? I am on a dual core evo3d and everything is barely moving Thanks!
change the memory to 16mb. cycle way down on the cpu cycles until the audio stutter stops. (around 2600 cycles worked on my phone with a 1ghz snap dragon cpu) thats about as good as it gets for now. It is slow and cumbersome...barely playable I'd say at this point. star trek 25th almost runs perfectly though. on another note: with scummvm these games I tried run flawlessly and I mean absolutely perfect: Full Throttle 7th Guest The Dig I'm hoping the next release of aDosbox will squeeze more cpu power through. There's plenty of cpu cycles in these higher end smartphones to run these games well, as demonstrated through scummvm.
I just got an experia arc. I am illiterate when it comes to games. Any chance you could show how to get the game onto your phone please?
I don't have the means to create a video of that, but I'm happy to assist over this thread. you will need some sort of file manager for android. I use ES File Explorer. first off, use google and find a free software app that can create .iso images from a disc. Nero is one that I know works. then copy that .iso file to your sd card. On mine, I made a folder called dos to put batch files in (will explain that as we get to it) and an iso folder to put the disc images in. /sdcard/dos/iso/tng.iso I keep the name as short as possible and all lower case...keep it simple. download and install the aDosbox 0.2.5 version found here: http://androiddosbox.appspot.com/ edit the dosbox-0.74.conf located in: /sdcard/app-data/org.hystudio.android.dosbox/.dosbox change these lines: memsize=8 (change to 16) cycles=auto (change to 2600) at the very bottom end of the file add: mount c: /sdcard/dos c: now save it as: dosbox.conf when you launch dosbox there are options to configure it to use a custom .conf file, you will want to point it at the dosbox.conf you just altered. now run dosbox. bring up the keyboard type in: imgmount d c:\iso\tng.iso -t iso (then hit enter) then type: d:\ (hit enter) install (hit enter) this will install final unity. I installed it to the dos folder which is c:\ in dosbox. so it ended up in c:\sttng all you really need to do after this point is launch the game. I made a batch file to automatically mount the iso image and launch tng. This is also in the Dos folder on the sdcard. I made it on my pc then just copied it over to make it easier. It's called tng.bat the text in it is: imgmount d c:\iso\tng.iso -t iso c:\ cd sttng sttng so all you would need to do now is launch dosbox and type in: tng then the image will mount and launch the game. this works for all the other games as well.
Great stuff thanks so much! I hope I have the chance this weekend to give it a shot. I will post if I do and what happens. Thanks so much for this thread!
Found out if you disable music and bump cycles up from 2600 to 3600 judgement rites runs much smoother and audio popping goes away
