Another seasonal Avatar Contest is here! This time we'll broaden the theme a bit. As the year draws to a close, most of us experience an onslaught of holidays; in addition to Christmas and New Year's, we have Hanukkah, Yuletide, Kwanzaa, Pancha Ganapati and even-- ack-- Festivus. For most people, it is a time of love, good cheer and renewal; or at least benign collegiality. So in this contest, we will show the world images that capture that spirit for each of us individually. Note: For many people, their favorite image from the season may be from a particular TV special (e.g. Frosty or Rudolph) or movie or play. For me it's that episode of Starsky & Hutch that had Kristy McNichol in it. So for this particular contest, we will allow such media images. All other restrictions remain in effect. Note the 2nd: The theme is "Happy Holidays," the first word being as important as the first. So please no the-holidays-suck-and-people-suck-and-the-world-hates-me avatars. Thank you. Okay, people: Get out there and find some heartwarming images of peace and love and enter them in our cutthroat, no-holds-barred Avatar Contest.
Oh, I wish! No, it's just a picture I found that just captured that image I have in my head about what Christmas looks like: a lovely, glowing tree, a nice, warm fire, presents, stockings, a very comfy feeling.
Large turkey not a requirement (in fact, young master trampledamage will probably be eating a grilled cheese sandwich) - just the family around the table I found this picture on a great blog post giving suggestions on making Christmas a happier, more relaxed time for everyone: http://www.oliobymarilyn.com/2010/12/simple-pleasures.html I'm definitely taking on her jigsaw idea
I'll go ahead and enter my current av. Sir Richard Attenborough as Santa Claus from "Miracle on 34th Street". I love the mythos of Santa, and Attenborough's portrayal had a lot to do with me falling in love with it in the first place.
